Here is a link to the manual:

Kodak 5100 Manual

Go to page 47. Instructions with pictures are given clearly. That is much easier than me trying to talk you through it.

Make sure you do it with the printer ON. It will then calibrate after installation.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Error 5100 on canon mp 160

Hi You can Try

Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Hope it do for you

Printing too light

Kodak EasyShare 5100 series
Clean the print head then print a demo sheet.
  1. Verify that inkjet paper is loaded in the paper trays.
  2. On your desktop, start the KODAK All-in-One Home Center, then select the Help [?] icon.
  3. From the Help menu, select Maintenance, then select Print head Cleaning. The On/Off light flashes green during the cleaning procedure.
  4. When the On/Off light glows a steady green, press Photo and Copy simultaneously to print a demo sheet.
If the Demo print is bad- IE: no black, blurry print etc., then you may need to replace the print head:

Kodak 5100 black will not print

In the UK call 0870 2430270

Tell them, because they will ask you to:

You have removed and reseated Black Cartridge

Carried Out Printhead Cleaning

Carried Out Calibration Test, and Black is missing

Did a Test Print (Press Photo & Copy together) and NO BLACK

and they will send a New Print Cradle overnight.

I also complained about wasting ink on multiple tests and got a new pack of ink as well.

Black Ink not printing

Call this number. I had the same problem, and Kodak is replacing my print head FREE of charge. As the printers in the 5000 series are still under warranty. 1 800 421 6699

(To remove your print head: first remove the color ink cartridge. there is a button of sorts under a small ledge just above the picture of the finger used for installation. Press FIRMLY here, up towards the ceiling. The print head will come out. To reinstall, just put back in and press again firmly on the pic of the finger till it snaps.)

If you get the same quality of print, you need a new head.
