Error message 5100 on Canon i560 printer

I tried to print a document in MS Word. It had some color graphics and an orange background. I got an error message saying Service error 5100 and telling me to cancel the print job and turn the printer on again. The green and orange lights were flashing once alternately. When I tried printing again, the same message appeared. I tried it a couple of times, and even cleaned the print heads and checked the nozzles and print alignment. The printer also made a screeching sound when it started to print the page.

I just printed out a letter in black and white and it looked fine. What's causing the problem?

Hi You can Try
Same old errors
Error Code 5100
Solution 1:
Clean the timing strip.

Solution 2:
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .

Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.

Resume button

What is the exact error message that comes up, and how do you fix it before pressing the "Resume" button? My normal errors with this printer is either no ink, no paper, or paper jam--once the error is corrected, I press the "Resume" button (on the right of the 2 buttons) once only.

I am not too familiar with the flashing error code, I will need to get back to when I find an answer to that. If it is a new print head,

As for a new printer, it depends on many factors:
(1) What you use the printer for?
(2) Do you need color printouts? If not a monochrome laser usually has the lowest cost per page, albeit a greater initial cost of the printer.
(3) Do you use genuine Canon ink cartridges, a generic brand, or refill? I have used generic ink on my i560 for a number of years with no problem
