I have ordered and received a new traction cable for my Toro Recycler Lawn Mower. However, no instructions. How do I attach this cable so that the mower is once again self propelled?

That can be a tough one the cable that houses the throat cable is the secret to make it work. Look at your old cable and make sure it is in stalled in the same position and work backwards until it works . If the cable is not adjusted right you can not get full power.

SOURCE: Stuck pull cord on Toro 6.5 self-propelled mower

1) Common problem when a mower sits for several weeks at a time between mowing;
check for extra grass debris to be glogged between the blade and the mower shell.

2) If the mower has a 'bail' or 'zone' control handle;
this releases a brake mechanism on the flywheel to allow it to rotate, and after it is running, releasing the lever will 'kill' the engine.

NOTE* when transporting a push mower in the trunk of a car, try to keep the mower as level as possible.

*extra note when mower has been transported in the back of a car;
sometimes the mower is placed in a trunk at such a severe angle that the oil from the crankcase is forced around the rings and sits on top of the piston so that when you try to pull the rope you have a 'hydra' lock. (that is when a liquid is between the piston and the spark plug) You cannot compress a liquid, so the rope appears stuck.

If this happens, remove the spark plug (make sure the loose plug wire is fastened away from any combustable that comes out of the spark plug hole *** AND THERE WILL BE A HUGE STREAM OF OIL AND GASOLINE, SO BE PREPARED TO CLEAN UP A MESS ***
pull as normal until fluid is dispelled from internal engine
clean or replace the spark plug
a few more pulls (no choke required) and you are up and going

How to repair a clutch cable on a toro recycler mower

Did the cable break? Or did it just stop working? In general you have to figure if it came off, break or did the adjustment slip. Readjust if necessary or replace the hole cable or re install it correctly. Simple Question, so many answers. And if all else fails, take it to a lawn mower repair shop.

How is the traction cable adjusted on Toro Model 20027, Serial # 20005663. I'm replacing the cable and the new one is slightly different from the old one, but the Toro shop tells me it's the proper...

There is a large black plastic nut at the end where the cable attaches to the mower transmission. Turning it clockwise tightens the cable (engaging traction bar is tighter) and counter-clockwise is loosening the drive. If the cable is a little too long, you have to tighten it more.

Toro 6.5hp 22" Recycler model#20072 Self-prpel

John, adjusting the cable would have been my first suggestion as well, there are two screws accesible from under the deck to get the black cover off (one of them is in a corner and may be hard to see). Once you get the cover off you may be able to see if you may have a tension problem, belt problem, etc. Goodluck!

How do you replace a drive cable on a toro recycler 6.5 hp.

Its a bit of a pain - but with ordinary tools, it can be done. Get the replacement cable first. You can see how the bottom spring wraps around the cable with a universal joint sort of arrangement. Remove the belt protector (three screws from the top deck; if you have a battery compartment, that will temporarily need to go. Release the old cable from the top and middle attachment points, then unhook the spring from the traction lever. You might need to destroy the old cable lock to the mower deck to remove the old cable. Remove the plastic cup next to the cable where it exits the mower deck. Replace parts in this order: New spring/cable to the traction lever, snap in plastic interface to mower deck, small plastic cup top cable attachment, then middle attachment. You might need to move the middle attachment after you give it a test run. Replace belt cover and battery compartment if necessary. A lot of steps but, except for a difficult fit to get the spring hooked up, nothing is really difficult. I paid about $30 for the replacement cable from a local dealer; Overpriced, but I wanted to get the job done today.

Replace the cable traction (part #105-1844)

I just replaced mine and it was a little difficult and took me roughly an hour to do. First, download the walk behind power mover drive systems at https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/server.pt?space=CommunityPage&cached=true&parentname=CommunityPage&parentid=1&in_hi_userid=30166&control=SetCommunity&CommunityID=225&PageID=30031#manualsResultPage

While they do not specifically address replacing the cable, you can find out how they do it when replacing the drive belt. As I said, it took me about an hour and I just about had to remove the transmission and rear drive assembly in order to unhook the original cable. Good luck!
