Whilpool uses a fan at the back of the freezer to circulate air. If it burns out, the fridge will still cool, but not as well.
However, these don't usually burn out. What usually happens is that ice builds up and prevents air from circulating. If that is the case then you probably need a new bimetal temperature sensor on your cooling coils. This sensor sits at the back of the freezer (behind the wall) and tells the fridge when to defrost. If it doesn't then the ice will plug up the vents and may even stop the fan from working. Hope this helps.

Hi William, Our Whirlpool Model is WRF989SDAM. We are having similar issue. The freezer works like a charm and the refrigerator is not working at all. The food is going bad. We are finding that ICE is building up near the Vegetable section of the fridge and it looks like it is blocking the cold air from the Freezer from circulating into the Fridge. Do you think this could still be the issue with Bimetal Temperature Sensor? The fridge stopped working almost two months ago. Any Help is much appreciated

    Hi, Davuluri.

Some fridges use a timer for the defrost, but not so your model. It relies entirely on the temperature sensor. When it sences an ice build up it turns on the defrost cycle.

Oops! I just noticed that yours is the French doors model. Sorry, I'm not as familiar with this one. You might try someone who knows this model better than I do. Cheers.

SOURCE: Freezer works; fridge side doesn't

First thing to check is look and see if there is  thick frost build up on the back lower panel inside the freezer?  If not there must be a problem in the damper (vent).  Let me know what you find so I can help.

SOURCE: haier fridge- freezer fine, fridge not getting

The small cooling fan in the freezer compartment that sends chilled air to the food side is defective and needs replacement.  Sometimes that are only frozen stuck.

SOURCE: Hi i have a hotpoint mistral plus fridge freezer,

hi is this the frost free version ??? if it is which i think it is it could be a fault with temp module{frost free have electronic modules to control the system rather than a old fashioned bog standard thermostat inside the fridge} the fans should be controlled by the module in case of frost free models it could be the module which is playing up

SOURCE: GE fridge/freezer on but no cold air

The main board on the back of the unit has gone bad or in lockout. Try unplugging unit for about 30 seconds. Then plug it back in. If it doesn't start the board is bad. wr55x10942 at about 169.00. Hope this helps. Very common GE problem

Why isnt the top part of my Daewoo FRS-U20BG larder fridge/freezer working although rest of freezer seems ok?

Is it just the freezer section? Open the freezer door for a minute and then, without shutting it, press the button on the inside that makes the light go out. The fan at the back at the top of the freezer should start whirring. This circulates the freezing air. If it doesn't start then that's your problem as the freezing air isn't getting to the top of the freezer. It's simple enough to replace. Buy a new part (30 pounds?) and replace from the inside by removing the back panels to the freezer. Turn the freezer off and unplug first though, obviously! Hope this helps.

Top shelves in freezer not freezing food. Also no ice from ice maker. Seems cold air has stopped coming out of top vent

We had the same problem with our refrigerator just yesterday. Defrosting (even tho frost-free) cleared up the airflow problem-- If it's frost-free, when it defrosts enough to allow air flow, the automatic defrost can take over. Cause was stored food blocking the vent between the freezer and lower part of fridge.

Some fridge freezers take the cold air from the freezer and moves it into the fridge via small duct in the back of the inside of the fridge and freezer . Empty frige and freezer , take plug ouy of wall and carefully remove involved panels taking note of any mechanical valves and order for reassembly. Clean and clear all airways and check for any blockages . Over loading of freezer can also obstruct airways . Whilst you are doing this you will allow a good defrost time for fridge and freezer airways . Hope this helps

Samsung Model SR 21 NME. The freezer is on the top, this freezers fine, but the fridge isnt even cool. We have taken the back off the freeze to do a complete defrost. The fan works fine. But the ttemp dial...

Inside the fridge compartment, at the back, is a panel that can be removed, remove the screws careful with the bulb, its plugged in behind the panel.

the panel has a vent that allows cold air flow from the freezer, this will often freeze completely shut with ice. let it thaw out, then check to see that the vent opens, or closes when you turn the dial, the best thing is to open it as wide as possible, I even used toothpicks to open the valve even more, its just a thin flap, surrounded by Styrofoam.

afterwards if your fridge is too cold, adjust the real thermostat located in the freezer.

Refrigerator compartment cools correctly for a few days then no longer receives cold air from freezer. The freezer continues to operate and gets much colder than it should.

does your fan blow? freezers have a fan that pushes cold air to the fridge side if fan is bad freezer will run extremely cold and fridge won't cool down and since frige won't cool down thermostat in fridge doesn't tell compressor to stop

Freezer to cold refrigerator not cold enough

sounds like your defrost timer is not working properly . Most fridge/freezers the fridge gets cooled from the cool air from the freezer . But when the defrost timer is not working properly the section between the fridge and freezer freezes up and hence doesnt allow the flow of cool air into the fridge. The defrost timer can be easily replaced.
