When I turn on my ps3, the initial music plays and the wavy bar comes up with the words "playstation 3" like normal. It then does nothing. The wavy bar stays on the screen and nothing happens. The color scheme is not the way I set it either. The screen is black behind the wavy bar.

Have you tryed unpluging device for 10 min. to reset device.

try to rebuild the file system within this menu ok

Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.

3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps

4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.

5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button

6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

hello, turn the power on then press and hold the standby button on the front of the ps3 you will hear 1 bleep then 2 short bleeps after the short bleeps release the button it should reset the ps3

This problem is because your PS3 software has become corrupt. The following steps will cure the problem but you will lose saved games and all other data. Your trophies will not be affected as these are stored by the Playstation Network.
Step 1. Turn your PS3 onto standby (Red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it, beep 5 seconds later then beep once more 5 seconds later and then turn back to standby. Release the power button.
Step 3. Press and hold the power button again. It will beep when you first press it, beep again 5 seconds later and then beep twice quickly. Let go of the power button as soon as you hear these two beeps.
Step 4. The PS3 will start up asking you to plug in a controller with a USB cable and press the PS button. Do this and it will boot into the recovery menu.
Step 5. Choose option 5 (Restore PS3 system). This will re-install the PS3 software and restart the console.
Step 6. When the PS3 restarts you will be asked to enter the time and date and other information. When the setup is complete your PS3 will boot into the home menu normally.

i have an 80gb ps3 this is what i done

1. step 1 Sony PS3
   Turn on your Sony Playstation 3 console and wait for the main menu to come up.
   
2. Step 2 Ipod USB connector. Connect your Ipod to your PS3 with the USB cord.
   
3. Step 3 Go to the MUSIC icon.
   
4. Step 4 Scroll Down to USB Device (Ipod).
   
5. Step 5 Press the Triangle button. (If you press X you will not be able to play the songs.)
   
6. Step 6 Press the X-button on the "Display All" icon.
   
7. Step 7 Scroll down to "Music"
   
8. Step 8 Now you can view all of your music and songs and play your Ipod on your PS3! You can create playlists and listen to all of your favorite music from your ipod through your Playstation 3.

this problem happens when the hd is already faulty.got this same problem before,i replace the hd and my problem is dissolved.try it.

Try using a different hard drive. The reader arm may be stuck on the platter inside your hard drive so it can't fully boot. Thanks.

download v2.40 onto memory stick:

install it via update via storage device.

if you can get it back to v2.40, you are lucky, just look at how many people are having problems with there ps3 at the moment on this forum
