I disconnected my playstation in properly while playing a game and now when i turn it on it wont display anything but the wavy lines it will say ps3 the basic stuff but nothing appears like my game icon my video icon ect what do i do

1- Disconnect the PS3 from the internet.
2- Turn the standby switch off so the red light turns off too, then you turn the system back on
3- Then place your finger on the power button for a total of 4 beeps to access the recovery menu. It might not work on the first attempt but it will on the second.
4- The display will instruct you to connect your controller to the PS3 and press the enter button. A list of menus will appear on your display. The choices are as follows: Restart System, Restore Default Settings, Restore File System, Rebuild data base, Restore PS3
5- Select Restore Default Settings.

Your hard drive is bad. you need to replace it.

When turning on Press and hold your PS3 power button for about 6 seconds. You will hear 2 more bips!
This will reset your PS3 to MFG default. Connect your Composite jacks (Yellow, red, white) from your PS3 to your TV in order to hear and see the display! This will not delete any of your data!

If the wavy line is like static I no exactly what you mean My old Laptop did that to me but that's because my niece dropped it so you might want to think back if you have ever dropped it if not then you might need to get a new hard drive for it because PS3's have a tendency to Screw up because mine wont play any games it just doesn't even try to read the disc but you might have left the system on too long and fried it as well. so i suggest you either have a professional look at it or replace the hard drive and i doubt you want to buy a new system so i hoped i helped you out ttyl BYE.

im having this problem right now, when its on press and hold the power button until it turns off( the light is red) then hold the power button for 1 beep then u'll hear 2 beeps then u'll go to a menu where it asks you to plug in a controller but this is where im stuck so you can try experimenting if u want but hopefully someone will find a proper solution

But you are unable to play your discs because the Blu-Ray Lens that enables the PS3 to read Blu-Ray movies or games has gone bad.

There is nothing you can do about it. You need to take it to an authorized Sony Service Center and get the lens replaced.

can the new 2009 playstation3 be upgrade to play palystation2 games

prolly harddrive error...boot up machine with usb drive stick..check access light on usb stick to see if the unit attempts to post

Make sure the video out is set up proper for your tv/monitor
Also, your PS3 cable might be bad
Has anyone twisted it or dropped something on it?
