Fax machine has to be connected to an analog port on your Merlin. Also you have to specified what extension it is in the programming so your Auto Attendant can forward fax calls to that extension. This is a job for a proffesional. Please hire one.

Fax problem

I want to make sure I understand this completely. You get no dial tone from the fax machine when hooked up to VOIP. In the past, was there an audible dial tone from the fax, or did it just dial silently and give you an error if there was no tone? When you said you got a dial tone by connecting a phone to the ext phone port of "the machine" did you mean the fax machine? If you get a dial tone by running a phone through the fax machine, then the line is good. I have used a fax machine over Sunrocket before they went defunct, which used the same technology base as Vonage - so it should work. If you used to get an audible dial tone when using the fax, and no longer do, and you are geting a dial tone on a regular phone that is connected to the ext. port of the fax machine, then the problem has to be in the fax machine itself, not the VOIP. If you can verify that, we can go from there.

You will need to log into the admin mailbox of teh voicemail. But there are a few different voicemail systems on that system. Do you know which you have?

Merlin Mail, Merlin Legend Mail or Merlin messaging?

BIS-10 Phone - How to change default line

If you have a "squared" system (each line assigned to a different button), just press a different line button. To change the order of the lines, slide the "T/P" switch to "P" and press the line buttons in the order you want to use them (ie: Line 4, Line 3, Line 2, Line 1).

If your lines are "pooled" you just get the next available line from the pool - no choosing which line you get.

Hope this helps.

HOW CAN YOU USE A MERLIN MLX-10D AS A SINGLE LINE PHONE FOR A FAX MACHINE?

For the most part, the answer is "you can't". An MLX phone's extra port can operate a 3156-MFM module and derive the extra extension. There may be some conditions, like no DTMF receiver, and a few other problems.

I didn't ever sell one, but here's a link to a search http://www.google.com/search?q=3156-mfm&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGLL_en

You can pick one up for as little as $50 on eBay.

Setting up fax feature

get a separate telephone cable and attach it to your fax, switch line over from phone to fax manually at the phone line input on the wall, it's the ONLY way I can manage that same problem. If you forget to "switch" your lines over, unplug the fax from the wall & answer your other house phone that's plugged into the wall. Works every time. It takes a little effort, but why pay for more phone lines when all you have to do is plug/unplug an extra phone line?

Hi Brenda,

Your All In One wants a phone line hooked directly to it. It won't fax without a "POTS" line directly hooked to it. POTS stands for "Plain Old Telephone Service" which is the line with good old dial tone on it.

Message: phone off the hook

I am reading 2 different things into this post, so if I am of base let me know exactly what is happening.
If you are getting an off the hook message on the machine display, there is an actuator on the cover where the phone is on the machine that is for some reason not being actuated. The cover poped off a little, the actuator broke. But it is not turnign on a switch that tells the machine the phone is connected and on the hook.
Now if you are simply not getting a dial tone. What happens when you plug a phone into that jack? Do you then get a dial tone? If you get a dial tone on the phone and not the machine, then try connecting the phone into the cord of the fax machine to eliminate the phone line itself. If you do that, and you still have no dial tone on the fax machine only. The modem on the fax machine has failed and would need to be replaced.
I suspect a phone line issue, but unsure if you have checked that as of yet.
