Have problems with the loading of the map XPC415S. Australia East coast. Will this map work with this unit?

Please could you advise if this Garmin BlueChart XPC415S will work with my Garmin GPSMAP 420S. GPS comes up with message not compatible.
What Australia East cost map will work?

    The GPSMAP 420S will only work with g2 maps in Australia. This I have tried and works. All standard maps will not work.

    The method suggested by Garmin wesite to upgrade software version to 5.50 is not working. I am using a 420s with version 2.20 and trying with a 4GB SD card.

The GPSMAP 420S will only work with g2 maps in Australia. I tried all and then was advised by Garmin.

I have found out that the GPSMAP 420S will only work with g2 maps. (3D maps)  So VPS415S for my area in Australia

Any bluechart that has been preloaded on an SD card should work.  Did you purchase your chip with the data preloaded or did you download it yourself?  If you downloaded it yourself, try erasing the sd card, format it, then insert the blank card in the 420 and power it up. This somehow preps the chip for the data download.  Then download the bluechart onto the chip and try again.  There is some ambiguous wording in the download screen that makes it look like some kind of error, try the download anyway and most of the time it will work. After the download is complete it should list the bluechart software version on the screen along with some other software info.  If the operating system software is not v2.5 or higher, you may need to download a software update first.

When you mean does not work, does the unit power up or is it plain dead? If it does not turn on, then you will need to troubleshoot or send out for repair.

If it turns on, but does not provide you with maps, you need to load maps for Australia as you currently have US maps loaded on the device.

Google search for Australia maps for your unit, or contact Garmin customer service.

NE = NORTH EAST... California is not in the North East of the United states. This device only has a small internal memory so you need to use a 4 GB memory card and load maps to that card with MapInstall:

You have several medium choices for street level map of Australia.. you can purchase your choice of an instant download, purchase CD ROM or an SD memory card version to install / load on your GPS. I dont thinki the 330 handles 4Gb SD cards I think 2Gb is the maximum that is why it isd taking so long and runds out of space so cannot properly load the maps.

Unable to unlock new maps
Where did you download the Australian maps from? If from Garmin, contact Garmin for the unlock code. Maps have to be unlocked to a specific unit.

If you downloaded the maps from the internet, you will still need to contact Garmin for an unlock code.

She can purchase the City Navigator Australia DVD and load the Australian maps onto an SD card. Insert this into the unit and she'll then have both S Africa and Australia maps.

Nope, the data will stay there, you just insert the SD card, use the wrench symbol/select map/select about/ tick the Australia map on/the usa map off/ and you're garmin just went Aussie.
