How do you replace Maytag MAH6500 shock absorbers?

SOURCE: mah6500 maytag is leaking

Us too are having the same problem - and recently - it has been filling with water on its own - and not emptying!!! We have had major floods!!

Remove them both and compare how stiff they are to operate. Replace if they do not resist movement much. The stiffer they are the better. Worn seals eventually make them useless as they offer no resistance to movement.

Maytag mah6700aww has 4 shock absorbers holding up the barrell how do you check them to see if they need to be replaced.
Best way to check is first to make sure all feet are down and machine is level. Second have it spin with no clothes in it. If it spins smooth with out clothes then you know its due to your clothes. too many heavy clothes will do it

Need new struts on rear, Would like to replace with air shocks. Any suggestions on how I would do this?
Shock Absorber -The rear already has air shocks on the 1999 Cadillac Deville: REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Rear
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Rear wheel Fig. 1: Exploded view of the rear shock absorber mounting 9300vg06.gif

    • Negative battery cable
    • Shock absorber electrical connector from the rear suspension support, If equipped
  3. Support the lower control arm with a jack to relieve the tension on the shock absorber.
  4. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Lower shock absorber mounting bolt and nut
    • Upper mounting nut, retainer, and insulator
    • Shock absorber compress by hand and remove through the upper control arm
    To install:
  5. Position the top of the shock absorber with the insulator attached into the suspension support.
  6. Install or connect the following:
    • Upper shock insulator, retainer and nut. Torque the nut to 55 ft. lbs. (74 Nm).
    • Shock absorber lower mounting nut/bolt. Torque the nut to 75 ft. lbs. (102 Nm).
    • Shock absorber electrical connector to the rear suspension support, if equipped
    • Rear wheel
    • Negative battery cable

The coolant reservoir needs to be replaced. Its located under the rear shock absorber. Does the shock absorber need to be detached at both ends. Should it lift right off without being compressed?
the solution behind that is to compress the shock absorber and tie it . once secured you can release the top nuts and disengage the shock absorber from the top . Once your tank is replaced , reinstall the shock and you are away .

How to take off & install front shocks on a 2002 Chevrolet S-10
NOTE Hold the shock absorber stem with a wrench while backing the nut off.
Wheel Mounting nut


Retaining nut and grommet Shock absorber-to-lower control arm bolts Shock absorber Replace the parts, as necessary.

  1. Fully extend the shock absorber stem, then push it up through thelower control arm and spring so that the upper stem passes through themounting hole in the upper control arm frame bracket.
  2. Install or connect the following:

    Retaining nut and grommet on the stem. Tighten the nut to 106 inch lbs. (12 Nm).


    Shock absorber-to-lower control arm bolts and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm) Wheel
