Our TV was working perfectly for 3 years, but now when we switch it on, the picture comes on for about a minute, and then the screen becomes mostly green and purple and covered in vertical lines. Sound still works fine. Very grateful for any ideas of what might cause this! Model is a Toshiba 32ZP38B i had same problem in past

The cause is one or more shorted transistors either on CRT board or on main or both. The colors are red,blue and green, you have a transistor for each and a bias trans. check each there are 6 in all.

The bad news, it sounds like tou have a bad plasma panel.One of the vertical drive arrays are in the process of failing.This part is part of the display panel.

two options 1 check ur power moudle for burst or swolling filter capacitors & check the electrolytic power capacitor in the primary side of ur power moudle .

swollen capasitors, replaceing will cost $500, so best to get another one, 42'' samsung will sell for about $800. the pn42a450
once a plasma has a problem, fixing it or not, more problems will occure, trust me, i am the flat pannel guru.

EASY! ok the 4th video processing unit is malfunctioning, if it is a Piano affect like the keys on the piano, then that can be fixed under your 1year warrenty after your 1year warrenty it will cost $200, but i could be wrong, i never studied panasonic plasma casue they ****, next time get a samsung.
the worst contrast and video ajustments, thats a panasonic.
