Vizio Televison & Video - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

No you can't!

This explains why, and why you can't diagnose television problems on an online forum. The television sections are really only for help with manuals and remote codes.

Here are similar questions that we see often.
Question:

I've replaced everything in my television because it previously had a black screen with no lighting. Now it doesn't turn on at all and all I have is audio. What could be the cause ? Or

Turns on and sound works fine, but the picture is distorted (solarized? polarized? not sure what the term is) I replaced the main board, but that didn't fix it.
Or

I have an LG 55LM6200-UE with a dim lower-left. I just replaced both LED strips with no resolution. There is no physical obstruction visible, so this has to be a cable or board problem, right?

So your television stops working properly and you think it must be easy to fix, because you can buy boards on eBay, and you can watch YouTube videos. So you make a decision, you buy a board and you fit it, but the television still doesn't work as it should! This is a classic case of the 'let's try replacing this' method of television repair and illustrates why it is a bad idea. It doesn't work for a number of reasons. To correctly diagnose issues, you need to know every board, what it does and every component on the board. You need to know which part has failed, replace the component, or replace the board. The parts you purchased off eBay were probably out of scrapped sets and not tested. The part you put in was dead when you put it in, so you just moved on to another guess at what might be the cause and replace a board that is fine. And so it goes on, you change all the boards and it still doesn't work. Did you notice the large print that says 'NO Refunds, NO Returns'. This is to stop you sending your old one back and saying it didn't work, but the unscrupulous sellers use it as an excuse to get money for selling items that may, or may not work! The course to be a television engineer is 2 years full time education, take it to someone that knows how to diagnose and fix. It is by far the cheapest option. The part that failed might be a 20 cents fuse diode hard soldered to a board. They will charge you $5 in parts and a couple of hours labour. It's not the fix you want to hear, but it is the best advice.

Sounds like backlight problem. Contact any experienced service technician. Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Go to menu, picture and adjust as desired

If you did the flashlight test and no picture that means its not a backlight issue so probably main board failure!

If you could see a faint picture then it is a backlight issue and it would have been the led backlights blown or the T-con board!

The T-con board is for the led backlights!

Are the backlights working? Sounds like yes even before changing the T-con board!

Did you do the flashlight test into the screen to see if there is a faint picture? I guess if you did you didn't see a picture!

This would point to the main board or the cable from the main board to the screen!

I dug around in the settings, searched the web, and finally figured it out. On my TV-Vizio D32-D1-the setting is: Menu > Picture > More Picture > Backlight Control. Set Backlight Control to Off. There's also Menu > Picture > Auto Brightness Control which I switch off as well for good measure

I had the same problem -- we even returned the disc and got a new one. Go to the Vizio site and download the firmware for your player. Put it on a USB stick and plug it into the player. Follow the onscreen instructions (basically just press OK). The entire process takes less than 5 minutes from download to finish.

The Hunger Games works perfectly now.

Sounds like it may need a software update. Quite common for dvd players. ring or contact where you bought it from or manufacturer and ask for instructions and obtaining files to update your player
