From what I read, the "L." that you see on the control panel indicated that the controls have been locked. According to the manual if you hold down the "alarm reset" button for 3 seconds the "L." will disappear allowing you to control the temperature again. I don't as of yet know what is causing your overall problem though...
Testimonial: "I have replaced the Temp controller that GE calls an EZ control and so far that seems to have fixed the problem. The digital readout was not indicating a locked condition in that the symbol being shown was not the "L" that indicates a locked panel. It looked more like a lower case l followed by a dot. I will have to wait another couple of days to see if this problem is fully resolved."

What makes a compressor to run constant is the thermostat. Bang on it to see if it will turn off. turn the setting to 1. if it still wont shut off replace cold control (aka thermostat)
worry about the light later hope this was helpful

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Several hours later I noticed the temperature inside had dropped to minus 15. The temp control had been set to 4 which is normally about zreo .
