Freezer runs for approx. four days with operation normal. Then the temp. panel of front door displays a symbol that looks like a short L followed by a period. Then the temp. gauge and the interior light quit working but the compressor and fan run for awhile then stop completely. If the freezer is unplugged and plugged in again the unit "resets" and functions OK for another few days. The freezer is in a insulated garage and is never more than one third full.

After four days of proper operation the freezer interior light and temperature gauge quit working but the compressor and fan was working. Several hours later I noticed the temperature inside had dropped to minus 15. The temp control had been set to 4 which is normally about zreo . I have ordered a new EZ control unit which I hope will solve the problem

From what I read, the "L." that you see on the control panel indicated that the controls have been locked. According to the manual if you hold down the "alarm reset" button for 3 seconds the "L." will disappear allowing you to control the temperature again. I don't as of yet know what is causing your overall problem though...

Testimonial: "I have replaced the Temp controller that GE calls an EZ control and so far that seems to have fixed the problem. The digital readout was not indicating a locked condition in that the symbol being shown was not the "L" that indicates a locked panel. It looked more like a lower case l followed by a dot. I will have to wait another couple of days to see if this problem is fully resolved."

What makes a compressor to run constant is the thermostat. Bang on it to see if it will turn off. turn the setting to 1. if it still wont shut off replace cold control (aka thermostat)

My high temp alarm has been on all day

the warming up will be because the unit is not operational and the door hasn't been opened
call a service technician and check for a failed start/run capacitor for the compressor
the high temp alarm indicates that the food is in danger of spoiling

Temp display reads 92 (hi temp) but the interior temp is 0.

No. Sounds like the intern temp sensor is bad, missing, or not connected. 92 is probably the max reading it can display. The unit will probably operate continuously, be much to cold, and cost a ton to operate. I assume you bought this from Sears. Call them to replace the freezer. Should be no problem.

I have one out in the yard that is doing the very same thing. Works good but the door display is out. I looked underneath and all of the wires seem to be connected. The main control board is on the bottom as well. The battery is also new. You must have a broken wire between that control and the main board below. I imagine it has something to do the the connector that goes through the door.

There is definately a ground fault in this unit. Also according to the service manual this is an "Electronic Defrost Control" similar to an "
Adaptive Defrost Control" which determins the defrost initiation by the amount of run time. You cannot set this yourself.

these units are designed to run approx 85 percent of the time, they maintain temp rather than letting it get to a higher temp and then try to cool it down.they use a lot less energy to run the way they do long running times are normal

Freezer defrost cycle

If the defrost timer sticks in the defrost mode, yes. Normal defrost time is 30 minutes or less depending upon which timer is installed.
If it happens again, locate the defrost timer and turn the dial manually to see if the compressor comes back on. If so,replace the timer.
It is probably on the rear near the compressor. Some are under the front behind the dust guard.
