Sony CMT-M100MD The Sytem will not accept minidiscs. On switch on it appears to think that it has already got a mini-disc loaded (the display shows an MD Icon), which it tries to read, resulting in a 'Read Error C13'. This reporting of the mini-disc error continues at frequent intervals (approx every 16 seconds) regardless of which function is selected. The display has no detrimental impact on the playing of tapes or CDs. As soon as I select the MD function (without having inserted an MD) the display states 'TOC Reading' then after approx 16 secs it reports 'Read Error c13' then 'Welcome!' before returning to TOC Reading. I have tried inserting a min-disc into the device but it is reluctant to accept it and does not pull it into the player as normal.

My guess about how the problem occurred was that the system was unplugged before the minidisc being written to had completed the updating of the mini-disc.
The Minidisc system refuses to accept the loading of any disc whether it be brand new, previously recorded, or a disc head cleaner.

The mini-disc player is inside a multi-function unit. Can I access the 'white wheel' through the disc loading opening. If so which way should I turn the wheel? CW or ACW?

A 'C13' error means the disc Table Of Contents can't be read. I had the same problem with a SONY MXD-D40 (Error C13). I opened the cover and gently turned the white wheel which guides the laser. After a small turn 1-2mm a small click was heard. I inserted a Md and the player was functioning again as it should.

Hope I helped with the repair of your problem.
An Accept from you is how I get paid.
And a positive feed back tells me how I did with the repair.

Arjun.

The C13 read error on Sony minidisc means that the Table Of Contents (TOC) cannot be read.

The Minidisc is a magneto-optical device that uses combined laser and magnetic technology to write ad re-write the tracks, and magnetic head only to read.

If the problem is only with a specific disk or with few disks, then this is probably because of faulty media. In that case the content on the specific disks may be lost.

If this happens with every disc, including blanks, or with the majority of disks, then it is usually because the magnetic heads are dirty or faulty.

Additionally, when problem is the head, the motor will spin the disk, if motor does not spin at all, then the microswitch that starts motor and the motor itself must be tested.

To clean the heads (there is more than one on a minidisc) use Sony Dvm-12cld : Minidisc Head Cleaner.

If that does not work, the heads must be replaced doing a precision soldering inside minidisc deck, and without moving or damaging nearby laser assembly, and other parts in there. In that case better having the job done by a technician, as this is a very delicate repair, the part from sony is not expensive.

Sony minidisc will not eject discs

This could be a worn out loader. I've had bad luck with push in to load decks since I push them in too hard and wear them out, I migrated to tray loaders for this reason (I have a JA50ES and a JA20ES) which like other high end MD decks have a try which opens up to accept the disc.

The mehanisms wear out and are not worth fixing. I paid a pro $350 to fix a JA3ES a few years back and it only worked for a short time. I'd simply try to find a replacement deck rather than spend too much time or trouble on it. The 510 and 520 are great decks but getting very long in the tooth like me...

Sony MDS-JE520 Moisture damage? by being left in a box in a cold garage, now carriage will not take in the minidisc

It's kinda hard to tell from here.
I suggest you take the cover off and see what the mechanism looks like when you try to insert an MD.
I don't think there is any part that can rust, but something may have bent as it got cold and then hot and then cold.

Minidisc player displays "hold" and

Sony mini-disc players typically have a small button labeled HOLD somewhere on the player. It is a two position switch. Just flip it off hold and the player should work.

My mini disc player is displaying din unlock c71 i cannot record

You have probably chosen a source which is not active, there are other reasons but usually your selector switch is set to a dead input with nothing to record from.

Hi have an mds-je500 minidisk player that stopped accepting disks, worked perfect one minute, says load error next each time i try to load, then says eject even though disk doesn't go all the way in....

The small limit switch for the disc in position typically goes bad on about 40% of all Sony Minidisc recorders. It is a $5 part, but will probably cost you $35 to get it installed.

Doesn't accept md's

The manual says "C13/Disc Error: The system cannot read the disc information correctly. mEject the MD once, then insert it again."
It seems this error turns up when the system cannot read the disc properly, one reason for which is a dirty/dusty lens. Try a minidisc lens cleaner if you haven't already.
