Hi my mate had this ps3 sold to him has working but we can not get a picture .games will load has i can here the sound .ok what i have done to try fix this .new scart lead just the rgb for a non hd tv .i have tuck it to a mates who had a ps3 set up on hd and it just had no signal we did all the reset with the power button still the same but his was working fine .my tv is a old bush plasma so put it back on that and just sound .i found that takeing the harddrive out may bring a picture on but still no luck .the only thing i find odd is when trying to reset .i turn on at the back keep my finger on power till it turns off then put my finger back on and keep it on but i do not get the 2 beeps it will just turn off .but if i take my finger off at the 1st beep then back on i get the 2 beeps .is this ps3 for the bin or does anyone know what part i need to fix this .any help would be good has it as no garantee now

Console problems are best explored with the manufacturer. EVEN WITH NO WARRANTY LEFT
For a PS3 you call 1-800-345-7669
These people will ask you for you Playstations Model Number.
(And provide directions to find it)
from there they can determine if the system has any manufacturing flaws by seeing when and where it was manufactured and they check that against previously reported system problems.
Now a decent company would send out a recall but in order to cut down on costs they wait for the people who actually call then replace theirs. (Most people figure my warranty is up so why call them??)
the fact is there might be two or 3 manufacturing errors in your system that you dont even know about and are dormant for now.
IF they determine that it is a less serious problem like a dirty lense (which is common with gamers) ask if they suggest a product and method dont just try and fix your own system
They will have you run a diagnostic mode on the machine via push button commands. If they determine that they as the manufacturer are at fault they will send you a pre paid shipping box to send the machine in with instructions on how to prepare it (IE Remove HDD, Retain Controllers, Games, Power Supply, and Component Cables)
If there is a small chance that the damage is End User Abuse, the company will warn you before you send it to them. If upon inspection and repair they determine this is true you will be charged a small parts and labor fee before being able to receive your system back.
99% of the time the machine is determined over the phone whos fault it is (and 95% of the time its theirs)
All of this will get you a "Refurbished Console" (IE someone elses broken one they fixed) usually with a new temporary warranty.

It sounds like your lens is broken, try getting a dvd cleaner and use it on your ps3, if thats no good your hard drive may be messed up. sorry to hear about this man
