Hampton Bay Sidewinder ceiling fan. For ten years, wall mounted control functioned until it 'blew' when electrician was working on a remodel of another room. Installed another control (Progressive Lighting) that looked exactly like the original, it lasted a few weeks. Called customer care, they sent me what they called the original equipment, MinkaAire with reverse function. It lasted one day. Any ideas what could be wrong? Customer care now tells me that you can't have a dimmer on any fixture on same circuit. But we had one for 10 years....doesn't make sense. Help!

You called customer care about a Hampton Bay & they sent you Minka Aire??? Hampton Bay is a store brand for Home Depot. If The fan came with a remote, you probably need the one for your fan.

SOURCE: Ceiling fan does not reverse with remote

Just reporting that I called Hampton Bay about the remote not working to reverse the fan. I was told that I needed to have the fan running on low and then press reverse on the remote control. If that doesn't work, customer service told me to press reverse while running the fan on medium. (Some fans are set to reverse on low and others on medium.) Nowhere in the manual is this addressed. I had been pressing reverse with the fan turned off, which seemed to me a logical thing to do. Live and learn.

SOURCE: HAMPTON BAY CEILING FAN MODEL # UC7067RC

I have a solution for you. Call 1-866-600-FANS(3267) and give them the numbers on the side of the receiver. Example: 7067FM-22 (6+5) Variations of this receiver are used by many different manufacturers including Hampton Bay,Emerson,Minka Aire, etc... There is a web site that shows a few examples of this receiver available. http://www.fanmanlighting.com
P.S. It helps to know if your Ceiling Fan has a 2nd light above the fan or reverses direction from the transmitter.

SOURCE: remote controlled ceiling fan

unplug the fan then remove the batteries from the remote then plug the fan back in and, reinstall the batteries; this resets the fan control

I have a sidewinder model 312 342 in which we only use the hand remote. The wal mount remote was not installed. The hand remote does not have the feature to reverse the blades. is there another remote...

The short answer is no.
Since it is not a function of the fan's original remote control buying any remote that has this (as a custom feature) will never work with your fan. . . Sorry

Explanation:

Since you usually only change the rotation twice a year this is accomplished by a switch on the fan itself.
During winter heating, to help move warm air that is trapped on the ceiling, blades should turn 'forward' in a clockwise motion. This movement will push up the air and pull the warm trapped air down the sides of the room improving heat distribution.

During hot summer weather, to help produce a comfortable breeze or 'windchill' that cools the skin, blades should rotate in a 'reverse' counter-clockwise motion. The air movement has the same comfortable effect as when you fan yourself with a magazine to get relief from hot, stifling air.

Hope this helps,

The Tinkerer

Remote needed

If you talk to Fantasia Fan people, they may be able to help you. I've had spares from them, & they were helpful. They also supply a wall mounted, wired controller, but it needs an electrician to do the wiring. The plus with hard wiring is that it doesn't have a wireless controller pack to go wrong.

Electricians can be so much fun can't they ? LOL I would ask the electrician to bypass the remote to check the fan operation first. You need to know if your problem is the remote or the fan itself.. A simple wiring change in the junction box can be done to determine which issue to focus on.. Hope this helps..

Hampton Bay Remote

You must use the switch on the fan itself.

Wiring ceiling fans to wall switch

Hi Bigelow,

You need two switches.  It sounds like the Electrician set up the junction box for two circuits(Lights and Fans).  i say this because your supply has 4 wires, Red , Black, White and Bare. We may be able to oversome this with one Lutron Switch. Allow me to investigate, and I will be back.

Fan won't go on

It's probably the electronics inside the fan. They may need replacing. http://www.ceiling-fans-n-more.com/hampton-bay-ceiling-fan-parts.php
