My fan doesn't run either (Fedders A6X0F). I can get the fan to spin freely, so I know the bearings aren't the problem. But when I turn the unit on, the fan spins slowly and then comes to a halt. Any ideas how these "high efficiency" single phase motors work?

    Thanks

I have three fedders and none of them are working. What makes it so ad is two of mine are brand new only used for a couple of months. Whe I tried to contact the store I purchased them from, management was rude, then I tried to contact Fedders and they told me to ship the products to them, I think not. Who can afford that? I feel I wasted my money and I can't get any satisfaction. Who can help us?

If the fan will no run at all iit may have a capacitor bad, swelling around the top, or you may just need to replace the motor.

SOURCE: FAN ISNT TURNING ?

You won't see much when you take the front off just the evaporator coil and air output ducting. You'll need to remove the whole back cover to get at the workings. The evaporator and condenser fan are one motor with a double shaft. the double shafted motor may have dry bearings - they are oil-lite bearings, sintered bronze set in a felt holder. there may be a small capacitor on the outside of the motor. with the back cover off, locate the wires going to the motor. if you have a meter to read voltage, proceed. If you have no meter STOP, visual inspections won't get you very far. the motor probably is a multispeed motor. If you are squeemish about taking voltage measurements don't go any further. sounds like fan motor has gone bad or the capacitor to fan motor is bad...open up unit ,see if motor is frozen..does it turn freely..if so ,replace capacitor,or fan motor is bad...

If you can take out the thermostat, check to see that you have power on both connections. If not it may be a bad t-stat. If you can jump the terminals on this with at least a 12 awg wire and it starts, then thats the problem. If you do have power thru the t-stat then it may be the relay on the compressor. It will usuallly look fried if it's bad. Pull it off carefully (with unit unplugged). With an ohmeter, touch one lead to one of the three post on the compressor and one lead to the housing. Do this for all three. If you get continuity on any, the compressor is toast.

Somethings aperson cant fix without a service tech. First it could be wire burnt of capacitor going to compressor. Second it could be bad capacitor. There is a dual capacitor on the ouside unit one side says herm that runs the compressor. Turn power off to check to see if wire is burnt of the herm terminal or the C ternminal. Wire burnt off compressor common terminal.. Could be locked up compressor. Unless you know how to troubleshoot unit. You may have to call service tech. Cost if bad cap. is about 100 to 150. But unit wont run without it. Rus

Fedders wall air conditioner

If the compressor only turns on after the units it's shut off then it is a control board problem (stuck relay)

FEDDERS D CHASSIS A6D24E7A

Oh, the compressor motor's borked or overworked and overheating, or its capacitor failed short (perhaps the motor is shutting off from thermal shutdown...but you get to find out whether that's so. Be safe.) Alternately the temperature sensors have gone touchy on you. Once you gently vacuum it clean, try keeping incandecent bulbs in series with the compressor to get an idea of how loaded that thing is as it runs for those 5 minutes or so; the load might change more than you expect, just pay attention.
Hopefully you won't have to replace the compressor or motor; but it's doable if you're a certified technician with like equipment (so you can handle the refrigerant decently.) Most shops will streamline a bunch of similar jobs together to cut the waste and setup time.
Bigger conditioners are so much more efficient than little ones...syndicate the A/C?

Compressor runs even when turned off

You could have a relay stuck closed, so every time the power is on it feeds electricity to the compressor.

Fedders Window AC Unit

I would try to start the unit with only the fan running at first. If it stays running then cycle on the compressor and see how it does. If the unit does not operate when compressor is turne on then we have to dig deeper into that.
