My JVC 56G787 is dark and bright is turned all the way up

This sounds like a heat build up in the TV set if not ventilated properly it causes the shading effect on the screen coating causing the dark area eventually it takes over the whole screen

The 60 K hours is bogus---Average life on a OEM lamp is 2,000 hours or two years average---if you got four or more years you were lucky.

To your problem---

brightness/ CONTROL MITE HAVE GONE OUT. (SHORT)

U turn on the contrast level to the max,if still not watchable,tv cathoray tube is dying,radiaton is disappearing.Time to buy another tv.

there so many things which can cause that to happen an these are thwe following,
i a tube has to be tested
ii a line transformer
iii vedio amplifier
this tests can be done in w/shop where other tvs are of the same.

have you tryed adjusting the picture in the menu section! this may help!! or on back of tv is adjusters those may help as well.

Sorry to tell you but JVC is a well-known un-reliable brand and if it's cheap, probably even worse. U may have screen burn from leaving a games console on while plugged into the tv, even if its not showing the game, it will burn it onto the screen. :(

Smoking absolutely destroys these TVs. Just like Teeth, the smoke gets inside and permenantly yellows the Light Prism. Since the Light Prism is responsible for passing light in these units, the yellowing dims and yellows the picture. There is NO fix for this.

Cleaning these is dangerous since all the parts have either a UV or Polarizing coating on them.

Again, I am sorry but this is the truth. On the other hand, try pressing the "Video" Button to see if one of these settings is any improvement

It isnt the lens. There is a crystal asembly that the light is reflected thru after it hits the color wheel. It is 4 pieces of completely mirrored glass glued into a small metal holder. One of those pieces has shifted. To fix it, you can take it out and possibly have a jeweler repair it. It is difficult to take out, but it is doable.
