Hi Guys,
I have a JVC 32T55EKS TV & the picture is overly dark. When the picture goes through the set-top box the picture gets even darker. The brightness is turned up fully & I have accessed the service menu by pressing "i" & "mute" together & turned the brightness up to 18 (max), but the picture is still on the dark side. The TV is watchable, but dark scenes are almost black!
Could you make any suggestions regarding improving the brightness further?
Thanking you in anticipation!
Regards,
Neil

This sounds like a heat build up in the TV set if not ventilated properly it causes the shading effect on the screen coating causing the dark area eventually it takes over the whole screen
There is a way to adjust this but it requires removal of the entire back cover-----YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO THIS AS THE SET HAS TO BE HOOKED UP AND TURNED ON!
IF the problem occurred over a period of time you have a good chance-----if it happened suddenly--you have a problem in the set.
With the back removed locate the HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER- it will have a large red wire coming out of the top of it that snaps into the top center of the picture tube (this is the anode lead) DO NOT GET ANYWHERE NEAR THAT LEAD WITH THE SET TURNED ON---ABOUT 25 THOUSAND VOLTS IS THERE
IF YOU LOCATE THE TRANSFORMER(ABOUT THE SIZE OF YOUR FIST) IT WILL HAVE TWO CONTROLS ON THE BACK---the upper one is Focus and the lower is SCREEN
With the set on turn the lower control (Screen) slowly to the right until the brightness comes UP---DO NOT TURN TOO FAR OR YOU WILL GET TRACE LINES AND THEN THE SET WILL SHUT OFF!
If adjusting the master screen does not solve the problem---you have a circuit problem and the set may or may not be worth fixing. Usually if the picture got darker over a long period of time--just adjusting the screen control up A LITTLE will restore things to normal.
I cannot tell you how important it is not to touch anything in the set---keep one hand in your pocket and use the master screen slowly.
Let me know what happens and if you have any questions ask before you attempt this.
there so many things which can cause that to happen an these are thwe following,
i a tube has to be tested
ii a line transformer
iii vedio amplifier
this tests can be done in w/shop where other tvs are of the same.
Sorry to tell you but JVC is a well-known un-reliable brand and if it's cheap, probably even worse. U may have screen burn from leaving a games console on while plugged into the tv, even if its not showing the game, it will burn it onto the screen. :(
