SS4100 DSL Modem continues to waken my Win XP Harddrive from sleep
I have a SpeedStream 4100 dsl Modem that works well. The problem I have is that when I place the computer to sleep, the hard drive powers down (as it should), but then within a moment or so, continued activity through the modem tickles my hard drive back from sleep. Is there a way I can configure my Win XP to ignore the modem activity and remain in sleep status (until) I want to awaken it? I've been advised by the I/N provider not to turn off the modem??????
Problem has been resolved by going into Network Adaptor, power management, and unchecking the option that allowed the modem to awaken to the computer. Hopefully this will be a long term solution . Your computer is not communicating with the router and modem it needs to reset to factory specs then reboot the computer, modem then router in that order. If this does not work contact your dsl provider for info as to your ip address ,gateway and reset with the provider.
Does the DSL light come on at all when the modem is powered up?? If not, then it looks like the modem is bad.
When the modem is first powered on, all of the lights should come on and then go off after a few seconds. The power light should then begin to blink while the modem does a self test. Once that is done, the DSL light should come on and begin to flash red. If it senses a DSL connection, it will change to flash green until it has established a DSL connection. If it does not detect a DSL connection, it will continue to flash red. If the light does not flash at all or if the power light continues to flash after a minute or so, then the modem is most likely bad.
you can't.
when the item name as modem/router. it means the main function is modem with added router function.
you can't connect 2 router/modem together. both need access to the internet and IPS for it function correctly.
however, you can connect 1 modem and one router.
you need a working PC with Internet connection in order for you to down load the driver. otherwise you have to call ATT and have them send you the driver on a Floppy or CD.
jab follow the step below to access your DSL, the ip given is a default ip from the factory.
pls reset the DSL before you continue(press and hold for 4-6 seconds until the power button blinks red)
Connect a computer to the modem. Turn on modem Turn on computer Use a browser to open http://192.168.0.1 Click on Advanced. (you then have lots of things to look at)
