What I had to do was to go into the ip address of the modem and save the changes, and that solved this issue. Thanks for all who helped. Have a great day. Your computer is not communicating with the router and modem it needs to reset to factory specs then reboot the computer, modem then router in that order. If this does not work contact your dsl provider for info as to your ip address ,gateway and reset with the provider.
Does the DSL light come on at all when the modem is powered up?? If not, then it looks like the modem is bad.
When the modem is first powered on, all of the lights should come on and then go off after a few seconds. The power light should then begin to blink while the modem does a self test. Once that is done, the DSL light should come on and begin to flash red. If it senses a DSL connection, it will change to flash green until it has established a DSL connection. If it does not detect a DSL connection, it will continue to flash red. If the light does not flash at all or if the power light continues to flash after a minute or so, then the modem is most likely bad.
Well, I understand that the modem is SS4100, which means ther are 5lights on it being, Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet & Activity.... Note:The trouble shooting is done according to the Light Status on the modem. 1. No matter what the proble is, the first step is to Power Cycle the modem to eliminate the static on the modem(to switch it off and back on). 2. If the Power Light is anything other than a solid green, then the modem is fried(except the fact that the adapter is plugged and working). 3. If the Power is green and Ethernet is off, then check for the LAN cable at the back of the computer if its connected to the modem.(It turns green if connected properly) 4. If the DSL light is anything other than solid green, then call up the ISP tech's to ask why the intenet is not working. (make sure the DSL cable is plugged firmly onto the back of the modem and the wall jack) 5. If the Power, Ethernet and the DSL is green and the internet is not, the open up the Modem page(type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and enter for the modem page), and cross-check for the username and the password. Save the changes and your internet is working!!! 6. The Activity light usually blinks green and it does't have much to do with the troubleshooting. The above are the basic troubleshooting steps. Hope it solves your problem......
Well, you are very correct with the activity light blinking and the increased blinking except the fact that modem will encounter a problem in future... The 5 different lights on your modem namely Power, Ethernet, DSL, Internet and Activity have their own indications and explanations. 1. The Activity Light indicates the amount of activity that is takin place on the computer on the Internet though the activity might blink even when you are not browsing. This can be explained by stating that the computer constantly keep sending signals about it being connected to the internet and any other acknowledgements..
So, you've got nothing worry about unless the Power or the Ethernet or the DSL or the Internet light Blinks.... Cause they are the resultants of a fried modem(check for the adapter), faulty LAN connections, interrupted Dsl line and the account verification failure indications respectively.....
If the internet light is not on that indicates a prob with your ISP, call them up and arrange a service call. I had a similar prob a few weeks ago and they had to replace the drop to the house from the telephone pole.
Unfortunately it sounds like the modem may need to be replaced. I had the same issue. Even after doing a complete shutdown, resetting all the cables, restarting the modem and then the computer, it still did not work. After you get the modem replaced, I would suggest you get a spare, possibably from e-bay, so if this happens again, you will not be without DSL Service.
hi,there are a lot of possibilities y ur dsl light wont stop flashing red, 1.could be hardware failure,2.defective lead light for dsl,3.or line issue on the network...i strongly recommend that you contact your isp or att provider so that test would be done by their tech support,...basically you have checkd all inside wirings n as you have said you even tested the nid already...have you tried changing the dsl cable or phone cable? have you tried using another modem? were you using a filter for your dsl? you have to consider also other emi/rfi or electronic interference....but most probably you might try upgrading your modem n see if your gonna get a steady dsl light...the ethernet plugs has no effect on the dsl light...its just the cable connection or line issue or defective modem...i hope this will help, pls feel free to ask if you need further astnce...
