Here below are possible causes and troubleshooting steps of laptop that can't power on, hope it may help:
Possible causes:

1. AC adapter failure.
2. Power jack failure.
3. Motherboard failure.

Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solutions:
1. Test the Acer Aspire 5920 ac adapter with a digital multimeter. It's possible that you have a failed AC adapter. If you don't have a multimeter, test your laptop with another known good AC adapter.

2.It's possible that power jack (socket where you plug the AC adapter) is broken. Remove the motherboard and take a closer look at the power jack. In some cases you can fix the jack by resoldering it on the motherboard. In other cases you have to replace the jack with a new one. Using a multimeter, test if the power goes to the motherboard through the jack.

3. If replacing the AC power adapter and jack on the motherboard doesn't help, most likely you have a bad motherboard. Replace the motherboard.

SOURCE: My laptop won't charge. I have

For a test -Remove the battery from the laptop. (leave it out) -Plug in the adapter and turn the laptop on. -Gently wiggle the adapter plugged in

If the computer powers off the solder and/or pins have broken loose from the DC jack. This is very common. Average repair bill is around $150, if your in the Denver Colorado Area I can do the repair for about $50
If it won't turn on while you wiggle the adapter and hit the power button then the adapter is bad again sadly

My Asus X553M laptop is not booting up. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

Temitope, Hard reset. Open computer, remove battery, hold power button down (((1 minute))), reinsert battery, reassemble laptop, push/hold power button a couple seconds.
2nd fix, try to boot laptop without hdd.(hard drive). Remove the hdd, then turn on the laptop.. then it can get into the bios.. reset the bios to the default setting, turn off the laptop, and then turn it on again with hdd reinstalled. This seems to be what works in the forums with this issue found in Asus laptops. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

Asus wont turn on

For this kind of issue, please follow up the following steps to check:

1.confirm the battery and ac adapter connect the laptop normally.Maybe the bad connect lead to this problem. If there are no lights when you turn on laptop, one of possible reason is that your adapter is malfunction.

2.the second possible cause is laptop dc jack failure. If the dc jack is broken or loose, you are required to replace it or repair it.

3.Another possible reason is that there is something wrong with laptop motherboard. For this situation, it includs two kinds of possibility,a failure in an electronic circuit and BGA malfunction.

For more detailed reasons and solutions, please have a look at the following article:http://www.ifitjams.com/lappower.htm

If you verify your laptop adapter is dead and you plan to order a new one, I recommend one for you on the basis of your laptop model:

Used wrong power adapter for HP Mini 311. Only in for approx 30 sec. Did smell burning but mostly the adapted. Found correct one and now I have blinking green light but nothing else. Won't power up....

Try with the battery removed, you may have fried the battery if the voltage on the wrong adaptor was too high. The fact that you have a blinking Green light is a good sign, it means you haven't killed the onboard power distribution system. I hope this helps.

I took my acer aspire 9410 in for a diagnostic & was told the motherboard was fried. How do I know if that's true?

It sounds like your first problem was the battery. The constant charging is not good for battery life and if used that way a battery rarely lasts for more than a year to about 2 years before needing replacement. The hot area should have been the battery charge circuit trying to try to charge the battery. That is also typical of a bad battery. The question is really if this all caused damage to the motherboard or the power adapter. If you leave it plugged in all the time as a lot of people do plan on replacing the battery every two years or less. If you use the battery you can easily get several years out of it.

The first thing I would do is simply take the battery out, then plug it into the power adapter and see if it works. Most laptops will run without the battery and most will hang or cause weird symptoms if the battery is bad. If it works then you know the battery is the problem. If it doesn't then you need to look at the power jack on the laptop to see if it is loose. If the plug from the power adapter has any slop it can connect enough to look right but not enough to charge or power the laptop. This would cause the exact symptoms you described. It may be possible to get it to connect by wiggling the plug around. This is also very common to see on laptops left plugged in.

If it is neither of these two from your information I would agree that there is a motherboard or power board issue.

The smell if I could smell it would tell what the problem is. If it is a mild smell of hot electronics then it can just something running hot or something covered in dust like your cpu (or fan and cpu etc). If it suddenly increased and was very strong then something may have popped or died on you.

The motherboard for that sells for about $250 from third party parts sources and you can find them for about $75 on ebay. Then you would have an hour or two labour on top to change it out. So you can check out to see if it is worth fixing. Most new laptops are not worth much more than this new so usually it is time to replace it. You can take your old hard drive and put it into a usb drive enclosure to get your stuff off of it.

Acer aspire 1710 msi laptop makes popping sound when turned on won't start

Popping sounds are bad. Usually shorting electrical somewhere. Is the light on the power brick green? flashing? Red?
It's either a bad power brick or a bad connection in the laptop. You can buy a power brick fairly cheap, but if its out of warranty and the problem is not in the brick its probably not worth it to fix.

When I try to turn on my laptop, it will turn on and go to the Asus logo then turn off immediately. I watch the lights and the orange/ green one flashes orange. I have taken the battery and power cord...

first check the AC adaptor is there any output voltage? if yes follow these step:
try to turn on the laptop without the AC adaptor, if it still not power on, remove the memory card and try to reboot, if the problem was not solved reinstall the memory card and remove the hard drive because it can be fautly MBR in your HDD.

I have a Dell D600 (PP05L), its not powering up no lights. I noticed on the power adapter the green light goes out when plugged into ac power. What could be wrong here? please help

Hook up your power adaptor to ac power without it being hooked up to the laptop and see if the green light stays on. If it does then you know your adaptor is okay. if your adaptor is only hooked up to ac power and the green light still turns off then you know your ac adaptor is bad.

Take out the battery from your laptop. Now hook up the ac adaptor to the laptop and if it stays green then you know your battery is bad but you also want to make sure you can get your laptop to turn on. Hopefully it will turn on with only the ac adaptor hooked up to it.
