Hi Bob There is likely a switch you ar enot finding somewhere on the outside of the laptop. Most have a switch or otherwise the function keys in the top row are used to enable or disable wireless.
There is usually only 1 way to turn on wireless especially if it is switch. Maybe you can use a small screw driver and turn it on but be gentle since its very fragile. Sorry for bad new. Good luck.
Make sure Windows is set to manage your wireless.
Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services
Make sure "Wireless Zero Configuration" is started, and is set to Automatically Start.
Good luck.
If your model does not have wireless capability, even if you had a switch on the machine, if there is no internal wireless card you can't make this wireless. My suggestion would be to purchase a PCMCIA or USB wireless card that you can load to your system to make this wireless capable.
Theres a slide on switch there somewhere on the side or front of your laptop. Once you turn that on you will see an a little computer icon on the lower task bar of your desktop screen near where the time is shown. That is telling you that your wireless radio is on ready to accept and connect to any unsecured wireless network.
You should have a quick reference sheet that came with your laptop (if new) which usually shows you which and where the features are at (USB, wireless switch, etc) .
If you have Vista just right click that little icon and select "Connect to a network" and if theres any wireless network in range choose whichever network (SSID) you want to connect to
Or in Vista click on Help and Support and on search bar type " wireless set up" and it will instruct you on how to proceed.
You can buy a wireless router for your home to connect directly to your existing ISP modem (if you have one)
When Vista installs its Service Pack 1 critical update it always turns off my wireless.
I hit Fn F2, but then didn't know what to do.
