Hi,most times,when a Sony BM-575 recorder/dictator malfunctions,what i will advice you to do,is if the Sony BM-575 recorder/dictator is still under warranty,you could simply take it back tothe store for replacement..They are very delicate to handle by any other person.
Or you could simply contact sony tech support..

Also if you can get an expert that can fix it properly ok with that.....
You can check the manual and see if it has a reset button to reset...
That will do...

SOURCE: need a replacement drive belt

Sounds like you're a very handy type of person with enough courage to disembowel such delicate piece of equipment.

This may be a good place to start looking for that drive belt.

Sony BM89 won't play or rewind, just starts and then beeps and stops.

May be a timing problem on a mode select switch or dirty stroboscope / opto coupler or something is broken (belt).

Here is a service manual , i dont know if parts are still available but use of contact spray very carefully on the electrical switches because of the transport this because of highly probable corrosion in the switch contacts when the device is not used for a long time, especially the mechanical switches on buttons play/rec
Some people don know how to download the manual look here down below the picture there is a hot spot that changed after a while.

Does anyone know how to adjust the reverse speed on the microcassette transcription machine?

You should check to see if you have the machine set on Dictator Press. If you hold the pedal for more than a second it resets. This might be your issue.

Hello the reason is you have set as Dictator Press and hold Stop and Reset for more than 2 seconds when your dispay change and show 000 your unit is ready to transcribe your auto back space it will work Normally
