Phillips 60PP920217F Convergence Problems

My TV has a problem with the red and blue convergence and I cannot adjust vertical alligments so it looks like these are shot. Can anyone help? Does anyone know the part numbers of these (IC)units that I would need to repair? I hate to throw this unit away. Thanks Glen

Sounds like I am having the same problem. The red tube is like it is warped and will not adjust. How hard is it to fix? And what are the the part#'s and how much do they cost? I have the same model.

First noticed that the picture had double images in red waves. checked convergence like the manual suggested. Couldn't get crosses to converge. The red cross in some areas of the screen looked like they were bent like wire.

Found this site listing 1 solution is to replace ic part # 93221234482 (does it take 2 of these?) which I found listed at the PARTS STORE web site, but the 2nd solution suggesting part # stk392-120 & stk392-150 & 12 resistors part # 6R8 would not come up in their listing. Which solution was successful and (if it's solution # 2) where do I get those parts?

  • mikerr52 Jan 14, 2008

i had green out lines i adjusted the blue and green points but they are not alined verticaly. what can i do?

  • Anonymous Apr 15, 2008

I relpaced the 2 ic's for convergence and I can now adjust blue but red still will not adjust horizontally and is almost vertival with green but not exactly straight and alittle shorter than the green vertival line. What els should I replace to fix this and what are the locations and part #'s. half of the problem is fixxed.

  • nyazcndrela Jun 29, 2008

My convergence for both blue and red won't align repait @ $600(part chge 300/labor 300) repair folks say don't do it. this was a gift in2004/ I'm also told if I could find the "board" it's easy to solder on??

  • Anonymous Sep 27, 2008

I have a very similar problem, I have lost control of vertical convergence only. Horizontal works fine on both red and blue... Any idea why vertical only would go bad?

    Thanks!

I have the same set and just fixed this problem toinght! I bought a couple of STK392-120s for $20 from www.electronix.com and with a soldering iron, heat sink compound and a solder sucker was able to do the job myself in a few hours. I did purchase the 6.8 ohm resistors too, but they all checked out find so I didn't replace them. There's a great site online at http://home.earthlink.net/~oleg.filippov/ConvergenceFix.htm that shows you the ropes, just not for this exact set. Once I did a multipoint reconvergence, the HD looks like new! This is at least a $600 service call from what I can gather, and if you're handy you can fix it yourself.

Replace ic chips pt# stk392-120 or stk392- 150 and there are 12 resistors located near ic clips pt# 6r8 ( color code blue - gray - gold - gold ) board location no#s 3149 thu 3160 if you look close you may find two resistors discolored as i found on my convergence circut board , also use heat sink compound on new ic chips , take your time to mark all wire connectors going to board from tv , also use .022 dia gage rosin -core solder and a 15- 25 watt soldering iron you may have to adjust the red - blue convergence afterwards my tv set is 3 yrs old also ( thanks holbert )

Ok I got this all up and running. There is a wealth of info out there. All you need is to replace the convergence ICs I replaced mine with stk392-180s as the run cooler and can handle more voltage without blowing. Make sure to use very good thermal compound as it helps quite a bit with the coolring. There are also a few resistors you need to replace. You can find out all about this is you just google stk392-120 replacement. Google is ur friends ; )

Words to the wise be careful with your solder job.

OK, friends. Time to fix it !!. Replace two Ic's Stk 392-110, and get in service menu settings , and adjust point by point. After replaced stk IC's, check if any resistor look brown or born, if yes, replaced it with 6.8 Ohms. If you have questions? [email protected] . Good Luck !!

Cannot adjust horizontal blue convergence on WS 55857

You still have bad grounds on the ICs. Or maybe the solder has fused another pin. If not bad grounds on the ICs you have missed them elsewhere...Really concentrate and look for these bad grounds and check your caps with a cap check. And power resistors too!!!!!

Blue convergence bows when watching tv, hdtv looks great

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

49abec3.jpg
f0add3d.jpg

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

93a1209.pngCONVERGENCE SOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

Convergence problems WS-55807

On this model if the fuses that protect the convergence circuit would open up, then the set would not come on. The convergence ICs probably have a cracked solder joint on the foil side of the circuit board.Re-flowing the the solder would help. I will always replace the convergence ICs when doing this job. The labor remains the same and you will have to pay a few extra bucks for the parts. Hope this helps.
