I had the same problem with this plugged into my onboard realtec HD 7.1 sound card. I ended up fixing this by enabling all the audio settings (line in,s/pdif in, and even individual speakers). After doing that I had all sorts of volume controls. After tinkering around I discovered that for some reason the volume on the front left and front right was all the way down(not muted), and after turning them up I had sound. I don't know why that mattered but it did. Hope this helps.
P.S. For some reason with that onboard sound card I could watch live t.v. and hear it, but when I record it would have video but no audio. After looking at the advanced volume controls in my onboard sound I noticed that all the individual volume settings(line in,mic, etc.) were greyed out and not accesible, but the main volume was accesible. I fixed this by plugging in my old sound card and everything was fine. And yeas everything was plugged in right. Hope this helps

Have you checked the installation? - most PCI capture cards use the audio card of the PC for sound. A jumper cord is needed to come out the capture card and into the audio line-in jack. Green jack on the capture card is OUT, and the Blue jack on the sound card is Line IN.
