Laptop - Acer aspire 5610z There is a function key to brighten up the screen in the keyboard but Its key board is not functioning so using external keyboard.

if using XP go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager>look down list for keyboard, click '+' sign and highlight your keyboard and right click and select uninstall. Restart the notebook and the keyboard will be installed automatically along with the drivers and should set it back to default.

You could have a defective screen - follow this to determine the fault.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.
Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

there is a software that launch menager. the program controls the keys you talked bout. you need to remove LAUNCh MENAGER.

Hey, I've just been having this problem. Try pressing CTRL + SHIFT + FN all at the same time. I found out that I had to press them once to turn on the green keys, and then press them twice more to turn it off. I hope that works for you.
