Acer Aspire 3000 Series Numerical Keyboard/Function Key Problem
On my laptop, there is no numerical keyboard. This is substituted for by the whole of the numerical keyboard being overlapped onto some of the alphabetical keys, and using the 'Fn' or function button.
For some reason, the keys have now decided to use the numerical keyboard function as the default, as if the function key was not held down, and to access the letters on the same keys, I have to hold down the function key. I have looked into downloading a better driver, but have had no luck. Any help please?

Re:
If using XP go to my computer, right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager>look down list for keyboard, click '+' sign and highlight your keyboard and right click and select uninstall.
Restart the notebook and the keyboard will be installed automatically along with the drivers and should set it back to default.

Maybe you need to press the Num lk (number lock) key at the top of the keyboard, then Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of the keyboard then hit the number key you want..
This happens when you have the Num Lk (Number Lock) key on and you have Pressed the FN Function key at the lower left hand portion of the keyboard. When this happens if you press the keys such as UIOJKLM you will key the numbers 4561230.
Turn your Num Lk off by pressing that key at the top of the keyboard.

If your Operating System is MS Windows, go to Start / Control panel / Regional Settings (or Region and Language for Win7) / Keyboards and Languages then add the English/UK keyboard or simply hold the ALT key and type 0163 from the numeric keyboard.
Press your FN key.
If you look at your Keyboard on a laptop you'll see that certain keys have more than 1 symbol on them.
The FN key brings these secondary symbols to life as live keys and pressing it again will restore original function to the keyboard.
please check for a the ( Fn) key which is found next to the left side ctrl marked by a blue colour. cleck to see if this is jammed as only by holding the fn key down will the alphabets change to numerical. If the fault is persisting again open your keyboards settings and check for default settings. Also try to reinstall the drivers or else restore you computer to an earlier good restore point by clicking on control panel, select back up /restore. I hope this clears your fault. Good day.
You may have a bad key, or a key with something under it.
Try this:
Turn the netbook upside down so that the keysj face the floor.
Bang on the back side that way you would to burp a baby.
Then, take a vacuum cleaner and **** out the spaces between the keys.
If this doesn't work, you may have to make an @ symbol manually by using the ALT key. (ALT plus 64). This should work in most Word Processing programs.
Make certain that the Num Lock key has been pressed to activate the numeric key section of the keyboard.
Depress the Alt key.
While the Alt key is depressed, type the proper sequence of numbers (on the numeric keypad) of the ALT code from the table above.
Release the Alt key, and the character will appear.
On a laptop computer, there usually is no numeric keypad. So, instead, depress the Fn (function) key, then the Alt key, then the numerical code sequence. The numbers are on the fronts of certain keyboard keys: M=0, J=1, K=2, L=3, U=4, I=5, O=6, 7=7, 8=8, and 9=9.
