Linksys router problem

Can you give more information about your internet provider?
Router does not need any information as long as you have an active internet connection. You may have to check connecting your computer first directly to the modem provided by your internet provider. Once you confirm that you have active internet connection disconnect cable from your computer and connect to WAN port on Linksys router. Power on your linksys router. Now you can check connecting your computer to one of the LAN ports on linksys router. you should be on!

You cannot use a Wireless Access Point (WAP) to connect directly to your IPS's modem. A WAP does not provide the ability to share a single IP address on the internet like a router does.

Either return the WAP for a refund and buy a wireless router or buy an Ethernet wired-only router and plug the WAP into the LAN side of that router. You would then plug the WAN side of the Ethernet wired router into your modem.

check the internet protocol settings and also make sure that all lan drivers are installed .....use the correct i.p addresss subnet mask and dns server...if you don't know set the settings to obtain one automatically .....submet mask is usually 255.255.255.0

I think it is your Internet Service Provider you are having problem with. You can test it by isolation. Unplug you internet connection from your router then connect it directly to your computer's LAN port. If you are having the same problem, try replacing your LAN cable.

It appears the connection between the Linksys and the modem is not working.
Try a different LAN cable.
Check the LAN cable from the modem to the Linksys, it should be connected to the WAN/Internet port on the Linksys.

Take your ethernet cable from the wan port and plug it into the lan port.

connect laptop to router using lan cable.
check internet connection. Should be ok.
Only then enable wireless using same WLAN protocol you use on Router: WEP or WPA with same encryption key TKIP or AES.
Be sure no access list enabled on Router or add Laptop MAC address to access list.

You probably will need to make some configuration changes in the Linksys router, or in your computer, or both. Your are correct that you connect the Linksys WAN connection to the LAN connection of the modem. If your connection type is PPPOE, you will need to set that up in the Linksys with the username and password provided by your ISP, so the modem will allow you to login and connect to the internet. If that is how you were connecting to the modem with your computer, you will need to configure a new LAN connection in the computer in order to connect to the Linksys. You can then configure the Linksys through your web browser to connect to the modem.

Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

If you're using a Cable provider, do the ff. steps. (For Linksys router)

1. Launch Internet Explorer and type http://192.168.1.1
2. It will prompt you for username and password. Leave it blank on username and type admin for the password.
3. Under SETUP tab, click the sub-tab MAC Address Clone. The click the button Clone My PC's MAC. Then click on Save Settings.
4. Unplug the power to the modem and the router for 30 secs. After that, power on the modem first, wait for all lights to go solid then power on the router. Check if the internet works.

if you can connect to the internet when you connect the pc to whe lan port , then your internet connection is ok and all you need to set is the wireless settings in the router.
connect the pc to the router with a cable .
then , Start-> Run-> type cmd-> ok-> type ipconfig-> enter-> look on the default gateway address -> type the numbers of the default gateway in the address line in your internet explorer-> there you should check , enable and or change the wireless settings.
