IPad HD loses battery power quickly. How can I make sure my iPad has enough battery life?

I've really enjoyed my iPad but I am quite dissapointed with the battery life. The new Retina Display seems to **** a lot of power out on a pretty consistent basis no matter what I'm using my iPad for throughout the day. I'm an avid Apple fan, but between the iPhone 4s' battery issues and now this issue with the new iPad HD, I'm starting to think that Apple might be moving a little too quickly in developing all of these "****" products without remembering that they have to actually be used by people who aren't around power outlets 24/7.

SOURCE: Ipad won't turn on

Hold the on switch and menu button together for a hard reset. If you can reset it, there may be an issue with your motherboard. If apple doesn't replace it for you, You can get the board at iPad Repair and there is a guide that shows you how to put in the part at Electronics Repair Guide.

SOURCE: issues with my Ipad wifi, IPAD wifi not working

I'm assuming you excluded the issues desribed in other posts (with being connected to the wrong network) and you actually have a hardware issue. You can always take it to the apple store and demonstrate the problem there, you'll probably receive a replacement. If you have issues with the warranty, there are third party places that will find our what's wrong. If you want to do it yourself, the good news is, it's not too hard to open it. Here is an iPad Repair Guide that shows how to open an iPad. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to iPad Repair NYC.

SOURCE: Can't charge the ipad from the USB charger

The USB port of a Computer may not provided the same amount of charging current as your wall charger. Do you have other power hungry devices connected to the computer? It may help to get a USB hub with external powersupply. If all else fails the iPad doesn't charge on any USB port, you may actually have a hardware issue. How to maximise your iPad battery life?

And while the iPad may have a fairly long battery life, you're still going to need a few tips on how to keep it lasting as long as you can. Here are some hints on how to perverse the iPad between charges:

In the "settings" folder there is an option to turn down the screen brightness. Keeping it down a little won't ruin your experience and will help prolong life.
Turn off 3G and WiFi services when they aren't needed. You'll only need them when connecting to networks or downloading/browsing data, so turn them off when you can.
Make sure apps aren't running in the background when they don't have to. Turning apps off from the multitasking tray can save you some juice.
Run the battery out every few weeks. Giving the iPad a full charge will ensure it remains in good condition.
Turn the screen off. When you aren't using your iPad, then turn the screen off and don't waste any unnecessary power.

IPad shows blank black screen & won't turn off ~ how do I fix?

Try reseting the iPad by holding the home and power buttons simultaneously until the iPad completely shuts down and the Apple logo appears.

Once the Apple logo appears you can release the buttons. If this does not work, you may need to connect your iPad to your computer and do a factory restore using iTunes.

Why can't my iPad see the full amount of widescreen when I watch films?

I answered this before. Please look at all answered problems before asking questions. Others have probably already given you the information.
Here is my answer:
There is no way to edit the screen ratio on the new iPad or any iPad for that matter. They went with 4:3 because the majority of users use the device to browse the internet and read e-magazines or e-books on it. As you know the screen gets cut off when you go to fullscreen or it has those annoying black bars above and below.
If you're looking to watch video do it on a computer or your TV. The new iPad isn't made for heavy video watching IMO.

What is the specifications of the new iPad HD?

Hi Steven,

You can access the new iPad's specifications on the official Apple website. The specs on the new iPad (or iPad HD) can be found by clicking here.

In terms of weight, you are correct-- the new iPad is just over 1/10th of a pound heavier than the iPad 2. Usually devices get lighter as they get deeper into the development cycle, but this was a decision Apple probably made in order to fit their bigger battery into the device (which was needed because of the new Retina Display-- a beauty, but a battery hog).

How you felt the 1/10th of a pound difference I don't think I'll ever know. Either way, good call!

IPad HD gets too hot for me to hold!

Hi Yoav,

Thank you for using FixYa. Here are a couple ways I have utilized that have cooled down the iPad by a few degrees and made it much more comfortable to use:

  • Turn down your screen brightness. This is the best way for you to avoid heating issues. Your new iPad probably came out of the box with brightness turned all the way up. If you turn that down you will notice a decrease in heat immediately.
  • Use Wi-Fi instead of 4G LTE whenever possible. Now obviously you can't do this everywhere, but whenever possible you should access the internet via Wi-Fi and avoid riding your 4G LTE chip. That baby is power hungry and will heat up quick.
  • Give your A5X chip a break. In less technical terms, try not to play graphics heavy games (like Infinity Blade) for an extended period of time. Like you said in your question, that's when you experience the most heat discomfort. If it is at all possible for you to take even a short break (like 10 minutes every hour) from gaming, it should do a lot to keep the heat down.

I hope that helps you out!

The Ipad battery: how many hours a day can you use Ipad without the battery acting up after a month. I do not have a computer Ipad is it. the batter seems to be low even after being charged up 100...

The iPad 3 is not yet available, yet thousands of designs for cases and covers have already been made for this new apple product. Decide what colour you want your ipad 3 cases to have, and what design. This is not all! Not at all! Due to the many hot apple iPad 3 accessories available you will also be able to choose the material out of which your accessory will be made. Anything from wood to titanium. Maybe an interesting plastic? Flexible rubber? Or maybe aluminium? What will it be?
