The defrost timer / or board will never be in the Freezer. Other than that it could be in the refrigerator section behind a plastic cover or metal cover on the back outside. It could also be under neath the front corners or center of the front kick plate.

A timer you can turn the cam clock wise til it clicks. A board will depend on the manufacturer as to how to send into defrost for a test. A sensor on the defrost type board may be required to by-pass into a defrost.

The freezer section has the only cooling coil. It sounds like it is blocked with frost and thus wont let the air circulate from freezer to refrigerator.

There is a defrost timer, (or board), a defrost heater, and a defrost safety thermostat. Any One of these or a combination of 2 can be your problem. If you have a energy efficient model that has electronic controls then you will have a board. The procedures for checking the circuit on a board vary by manufacturer of the board used and manufacturer of the appliance.

The defrost heater always has resistance and is attached to the freezer coil.
The defrost thermostat is also attached to the heater electrically, unless it is an electronic sensor type. Sensor types have a range of resistance that needs to be known to check and varies slightly with the temperature of the sensor.

If I haven't lost you here you maybe equipped with the life experiences that will allow you to do most of these checks. If its over your understanding I recommend you contact a reliable technician.

Where is the defrost mechanism located in a kenmore 2218877REL refrigerator

Your model # is not coming up for me, but defrost systems consist of 3 components. Defrost Board or timer depending on model, defrost heater, and defrost thermostat. Heater and thermostat are located around evaporator and Board can be located around controls or on back if unit behind a removable panel. Some can be located around compressor

Defrost timer location

Hello Darren;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You did not provide a model number of your unit. The model number is located on a label on the upper inside wall of your fresh food section. So I can only be general.

1.) Control Board - Many of the defrost cycle modes are programed into the main control board.

2.) Mechanical Defrost Timer - Some units with the controls on the top in the fresh food section have a mechanical timer. Here, it is a hole on the left. Using a large flat head screw driver you can trip the timer, turning clockwise one click at a time.

Notice the slotted hole on the left.

The defrost timer is part of the main control board located on the rear of the unit. Here is the new updated board for that unit.

The part comes with a 365 day, any part, any reason return policy.

Top fan is blowing and freezer or bottom fridge is not getting very cold

Since neither is getting cold enough, I would start by cleaning the condenser grill under you unit and making sure you have good air flow across it. Even if that is not the problem, this will help your unit work more effeciently, and allow the coolant heat to be disapated.
The most likely cause though is the defrost circuit. If you remove the inner back panel in the freezer section and find a lot of ice around the evaporator coils then that is the most likely cause. NOTE: If it is the defrost circuit, then manually defrosting the unit will get the unit working for about two weeks before the ice build up happens again.
The defrost circuit is made up of the defrost heater, defrost thermostat (both located in the freezer section close to the evaporator coils) and the defrost timer (newer units have incorporated it onto the control board) that is located either in the fresh food section or cabinet control area.

Does not go into defrost mode. refrigerator section becomes hot

The defrost is not working. This happens due to the evaporator coil in the inner section of freezer is got blocked by ice .--------

Try manual defrost reset procedure: ----

First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. It will take near to 4 hours to get run in its proper cooling cycle. Then check, if the problem returns again. If the same problem occurs then it's defrost problem. The defrost board and the defrost thermostat/heater is not functioning properly and it has to be checked and replaced.

--------------------

The procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the refrigerator section and the refrigerator section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. Now this problem which you mentioned. In this problem the freezer thaws, this happens if the thermostat is not functioning or the heater is not heating. Then the ice starts getting collected on the evaporator coil. The evaporator coil is at the internal section of freezer. If too much ice gets collected then this ice blocks the fan in the freezer section from functioning and this blocks the damper section with ice getting collected there. This all procedure is controlled by the defrost board of the unit.

-----------------

So first try reset procedure. If that is not helping then defrost assembly parts are to be checked and replaced. The defrost thermostat is located in the freezer section beside the evaporator coil. The defrost heater is located in the freezer section beside the evaporator coil. And the defrost control board is located in the fridge section.-------------

you can get the required parts from online sites like:---

www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site.---------This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Kenmore side by side ref not getting cold freezer is working put a new thermistat in and checked the heaters they are not getting any power

If the heater ohms out fine and you have continuity and you have replaced the defrost thermostat then the only other issue would be your defrost control. Depending on the age of the unit it may just have a timer style defrost control or an adaptive control board. The thermostat would be located at the top of the evaporator coils. Defrost controls are probably the least likely of the system to fail. Usually when they do the unit sticks in defrost and the unit will be totally dead. If its a dial style timer you can advance it with a flat head screwdriver until it clicks this should send power to the defrost heater. Hope this helps _MJ_

Where is the defrost timer on a maytag msd2556aew refridgerator?

HI. This unit is not equipped with a traditional timer. Your unit has, what is called an Adaptive defrost control board. This device is used to regulate the defrosting cycle, and heater assembly. The part number is 61005988, and it is located in the control housing section of the unit, just above the heat shield section.

Click here to see a picture of the module.

Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Mod. #795 75544401

The unit was built bt LG. It is a computer controled unit and the timer is built into the main control board on back of the unit. However, the most likely cause of the broblem is the defrost terminator located on the evap on the upper right hand corner. Also, try unpugging the unit it will reset the computer board. You will also have to defrost the unit.
