Ok...my tv worked great before i moved into my new home. We finished everything and plugged in my television and nothing happens, all i get is a horrible, high pitched whining sound...........any ideas?
Someone is giving me this TV and it's making the sound described, I am going to take it to a tech and see what we're going to be into it to get it fixed ... and if the solution stated is in fact the problem. We'll see.

Same thing is happening with ours....was working fine, turned off, went to watch again and plugged in....no picture and a shrill screeching sound. I thought maybe it would work with a power surge protecter.... ? Let me know the resolution.Same thing is happening with ours....was working fine, turned off, went to watch again and plugged in....no picture and a shrill screeching sound. hi plugged CRT tv RC-4120PS in just high pitch sound coming from the powersupply, have traced the sound to the high freq transfr not the lopt, PWR LED is on, so there is low voltages present from the powersupply,
I have test the HOT (with damper) its fine. The voltage to the collector pin is 135V so B+ is fine, there's also outputs of 10V each on two 25v, 470uF ecaps, however there's no secondary voltages on the output pins of LOPT there's supposed to be +25v, +15v, +180v. No scr aswell as high voltages.
When i press the switch which is responsible to bring the tv out of standby these voltages mentioned above drop B+ drop to 93v

is there a way to find and replace this "flyback" transformer? if so where is it located on me tv.?is there a way to find and replace this "flyback" transformer? if so where is it located on me tv.?

From the symptoms you describe, it seems the high voltage
flyback autotransformer has failed along with the horizontal amplifier (they
are slaved to each other). The sound comes from the flyback unit.
Well, the only way to solve this is to get a technician take a look at the set,
I'm afraid. Repairs could cost upto $100 or more, depending upon the number of
components that need to be replaced,
It may be worth getting fixed up. If you decide to do so,
call around, as shops have different rates and different expertise.
Hope that helps!

If it weren't for the high pitch whining noise. I would say it probably is an internal fuse inside the chasis. It is rated at 1.5 to 2.0 amps. With the whining noise it sounds like a trouble shooting bench
job. Problems occur when a electrical/electronics device is turned on and turned off. Inrush voltage,
when it is turned on, can go up to three times more than normal. This also happens at turn off. Solid state components usually fail at this time. I don't feel that this is a problem that can be fixed in the home.---BBB
Sounds like a tube TV . If so I believe the tube is cracked not hard to do during moving Ive done it before. it can be replaced for around 125$ to 200$ look at how much your TV is worth and if it does not exceed the value of you unit . Then locate a repair shop in the yellow pages.
Ok maybe this may help .... there is a coil LL08 I believe... somtimes it creates a high pitch whine like you describe.. its stands up on the deflection board..it basicaly a large coil of copper wire....you can take silcon and put on the coil...in effect damping the ocillations...hope that might help
jdosk-the high pitch noise you hear is generally from the horizontal output being shorted, the horizontal output is usually near the flyback transformer, get a digital multimeter to checkthis part.Let me know I'll try to help. cooltek Feb.16/08
Hi,
If after trying the TV again later and problem persist, repairs are in order.
A high pitched whine is an indication of a fault at the horizontal section of your TV. The horizontal provides the high voltage for the picture tube.
Your best bet maybe to seek the services of a qualified professional TV repairman since this involves component level repair, soldering/desoldering, use of soldering iron and VOM (testers) and knowledge of circuitry.
Good luck and kind regards.
possible coil vibration look around the yoke plug try to isulate the noise to a section of the board the is acommon fault/if not call for service not pricy.
