Walkman Cassette player playing slowly

I tried fixing the solution by replacing the batteries, and trying different tapes and the play remains slow.

SOURCE: Sony Walkman cassette tape player operating at slower speed

If this is the WMD6C then it is servo locked and can be fine tuned with the pitch control on the back of the unit just turn the switch to on then adjust to preferred speed.

Every time a cassette is inserted, within 5 seconds the power light blinks, and the cassette does not play, or the system does not play the cassette although the play button is green.

There could be several reasons why a cassette does not play when inserted into a system, and the power light blinks within 5 seconds. Here are some possible causes and solutions:
  1. Dirty or damaged cassette: The cassette tape itself may be dirty or damaged, preventing it from playing properly. Try cleaning the tape head and the cassette tape itself with a soft, dry cloth or a cassette cleaner. If the cassette is damaged, try playing a different cassette to see if the issue persists.
  2. Faulty cassette player: The cassette player itself may be faulty. Try inserting a different cassette to see if the issue persists. If other cassettes also do not play, then the cassette player may need to be repaired or replaced.
  3. Loose connections: Check that all the cables and connections between the cassette player and the amplifier or speakers are properly connected and not loose. If any connections are loose, tighten them and try playing the cassette again.
  4. Low batteries: If the cassette player is battery-powered, check that the batteries are fully charged or replace them with new ones. Low batteries can cause the power light to blink and prevent the cassette from playing properly.
If none of the above solutions work, then there may be a more serious problem with the cassette player, and it may need to be inspected and repaired by a professional technician.

Play button will not stay down = tried several tapes - changed batteries

there is a locking catch inside that has failed, there really is not much chance of fixing it

New tape playing too fast. What do I do to slow it to normal speed?

You have to replace the IC 601, probably burns because of some passive components that must be replaced. "Doctor.walkman @ gmail.com"

Tape speed distorts and slows

motor belts are cheap. try replacing the belt that drives the wheel. this become distorted specially when the unit has not been use for quit long time. if you think its not about belt, clean up the rubber that touches the tape when played, also the tape head with 70% alcohol. hope this help.

Cassette players jammed

actually you can not lubicate the cassette players. it has to do with a belt inside. your players may need to be demagnitized. i would go to radio shack or electronic store and try a cassette cleaner/demagnitizer and see if that solves the problem. i would even try different batteries or a ac power adapter if you have the plug. some batteries make units run slow. i would even get a can of dust cleaner that you find in the electronics section. you spray it in and it cleans the inside of the dust that may be inside.
