I am trying to find a way to be able to be on xbox 360 live and be able to access the internet without having to buy a wireless reciever for the 360. I have a regular small SpeedStream modem and the 2wire 2700HG-B wireless router. I plug the telephone line into the modem, hook the modem to the router via ethernet cord, plug in my xbox ethernet cord and PC ethernet cord into the router and once i turn them on i cannot acces internet at all yet my speedstream reads all green and that it has connection to ethernet and DSL. My router however reads ethernet green, wireless green, but no internet or DSL. Please if you know whats wrong help me out.

No, a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is not required to access, and set up Xbox Live, but you will need an internet connection. If you are close enough to a modem or router, you can buy an Ethernet cord, and plug it in to both the modem/router, and firmly into your Xbox 360 console. You will either need the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, or the Ethernet cord. Ethernet cords are very cheaper, much cheaper than a Wireless Adapter, but the Wireless Adapters are much or easier to reason with. So choose wisely with money.
Try this:
-If it's failing the IP test, that would imply that it can't talk to your router, not the internet, since that's where it gets it's IP address from. (Although XBox may do this with an internet check) So: -First, have you tried a different ethernet cable to the XBox; one that you know is good? -Secondly, ports on the switch can go bad without the whole switch failing. Have you tried plugging it in to a different one in the router? -Assuming you have a dynamic service such as a cable modem, have you tried plugging the XBox directly into that modem wire coming out to the router?
Be sure to power cycle the XBox on each of these checks so you remind it to go out and check for a connection. Hopefully this helps!
1.Simply connect your xbox 360 to the internet with the Ethernet cable. Go from the xbox 360 to a router or directly to your internet source; internet modem or internet cable if you have fiber optic internet connection. 2. Turn on your xbox 360 and go to the xbox live tab. 3. Go wher it says Join and follow instructions. You can put your credit card info. or buy a prepaid xbox live card
Before you
connect any cables, turn off your router, modem, PC, and Xbox 360
console. (Unplug your modem from its power source to turn it off.)
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on your modem
and the other end to the Ethernet input port on the back of your
router.
With another Ethernet cable, connect one end to one
of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the other end to your
PC's Ethernet port.
With the third Ethernet cable, connect
one end to another of the router's Ethernet output ports. Connect the
other end to the Ethernet port on the back of the Xbox 360 console.
Turn on your modem, then your router, then your PC.
Make sure your PC can access the Internet. If not, you may need to
configure the router for Internet access. For help configuring the
router using your PC, check the instructions that came with the router.
Turn on your Xbox 360 console and sign in with your profile.
If this is the first time you've turned on your Xbox 360 console, see Create Your Gamer Profile to get started with both the Xbox 360 system and Xbox LIVE play.
If you're unable to connect to Xbox LIVE, you can try to diagnose the problem right on your console. Go to My Xbox and open System Settings, then select Network Settings (setup XBOX using Automatic Configuration DHCP), Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
There are two ways to set up wireless connection to your Xbox 360, and get Xbox LIVE. Now remember, for you to do anything with the wireless connection, you need to buy Xbox LIVE. The company has a 3 month free trail for Xbox LIVE that you can sign up for. Then, when you have that bought, your true experience can begin. If you are fortunate enough that you console location is near your internet router, then you can hook up your 360's internet cord to the back of your router. then you will have to go to your internet configuration and test your connection, and you will have live. The other way is by going to Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Gamestop, or any other game seller and buy something that is called the Xbox 360 wireless connection router. I'm not sure if that is the exact name, but it looks like a pretty small internet router. Then, you hook that up to the front or back of your 360, into one of the many USB ports, and you install it. You may need help and may have to call Xbox 360 customer service. But, those are the two ways to get live.

well if you have wireless in your house hold you can or have to get the xbox 360 wireless which cost 100.00 at wal-mart. if you have a router that you can hook up a lan ethernet jack from the router to the back of the 360 that is your better bet. you wont have to worry about getting disconnected or anything like that.
i would sueest buying a 100 foot eithernet cable. this dont run cheap. at staples you looking at 40.00 or so, you can get one on ebay for abour 15 and that cover shipping.
with the 100foot you dont have to worry about were you have to put your 360.
