No, a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is not required to access, and set up Xbox Live, but you will need an internet connection. If you are close enough to a modem or router, you can buy an Ethernet cord, and plug it in to both the modem/router, and firmly into your Xbox 360 console. You will either need the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, or the Ethernet cord. Ethernet cords are very cheaper, much cheaper than a Wireless Adapter, but the Wireless Adapters are much or easier to reason with. So choose wisely with money.

No you do not have to just have a wireless adapter. You can connect through an ethernet cable from either a router connected to your modem or connecting your modem directly to your Xbox 360.

Make sure you have the X-Box Adapter on the same channel as the wireless access point...If your WAP is not broadcasting the SSID then you will have to manually put it in...

I cant use xbox live without plugging into router which im unable to do. Is there another solution

You can do it wirelessly. You need a wireless router and if you have an older model Xbox(The newer models have the wireless adaptor built in) you need to by the wireless adaptor. Found a Liknsys Cisco wireless N-300 router refurbished on Tiger Direct for under $30. I bought one there excellent same one at Walmart between $60 and $90. The Adaptor for the 360 is $79.99 to $99.99 and you can get those online or at Walmart and Gamestop.

Want to set xbox on line havnt got a clue

If you have an original Xbox the online capability is obsolete and will no longer be supported by Microsoft if you have an Xbox 360 you need to purchase an xbox live account either at a retail location or online through your xbox dashboard (internet and credit card required). You need to connect a network cable to the back of the xbox the other end to your router or modem to access Xbox live. They also sell a wireless network adaptor for the 360 that you can use instead of a wired connection.

How to connect to XboxLive via 1800HG 2WIRE+Linksys adaptor?

The easiest way to connect to Xbox Live without using your pc is to buy a
wireless network adapter for your Xbox.

You would then go into the system settings on the Xbox and configure the settings for your wireless network.
