Hello, could some one tell me if i had ethernet from router to switch then from switch to xbox 360 would that work? and could you tell me if u can go on the internet on xbox 360 without setting xbox live up just browsing? or not thanks.

Make sure that after you connect your system to your modem or router that you reboot both, unplug the power for about 15 seconds then plug in your modem, followed by your router. If problems persist, please let me know and i'll help as best as i can.
Using your PC as the main Internet Provider, connect one cable from the PC's ethernet jack to the WAN jack/port of a router. Next hook up your XBox to one of the wired 1-4 jacks/ports on the same router with the other ethernet cable.
I'm not sure if you can connect an Xbox 360 to the internet with a lap top. What I would do, is get a router (guessing that you already have one). But if you don't, it's basically a splitter for Ethernet cords. You plug the router into the Modem (the box that makes the internet), buy an Ethernet cord, plug it from the router to your Xbox and you should have internet. Or, you can get a wireless router, and get a network adapter for your Xbox to get internet wireless. But I don't think you can just get internet from your laptop.
As in an internet card that acts as a wireless receiver? If so, these things don't transmit wirelessly, so it's just for internet in your laptop. You need either an ethernet cable running from a land line, or a wireless receiver for the 360 with a wireless router.

Before you
connect any cables, turn off your router, modem, PC, and Xbox 360

If you're unable to connect to Xbox LIVE, you can try to diagnose the problem right on your console. Go to My Xbox and open System Settings, then select Network Settings (setup XBOX using Automatic Configuration DHCP), Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
if u dont hav e a router that is ur problem. to get ur xbox 360 to connect to vista media center you cannot connect an ethernet cord directly to ur 360, u must have ur computer hooked to a router with one ethernet cord and a whole different ethernet cord connecting to the same router the computers hooked up to. after you do that go to ur vista media center, turn active sharing on, make sure your router is connected to the internet. then go to ur xbox 360 and follow the on screen instruction from the the connect to media center screen.
if your wanting to connect to xbox live and stuff like that, and u enter ur ip address and security information and it tells u that the ip adress u entered is already in use by another device, and that ur xbox 360 needs to be assigned one, do this: simply go to were u put in ur ip address and set it to get the address automaticly (or in other words choose automatic). then go to test connection (ur router should automaticly assign ur xbox 360 an ip address) and ur router should connect to the internet. if it connects to the internet but not xbox live then u have not yet sign up for an xbox live account.

Turn on your Xbox 360 console with no disc in the disc tray.

It may have trouble recieving the ip addrees from the router, but not sure what switch you are using if you have a router you should connect directly unless its a wireless switch.
