We have a whirlpool gold bottom freezer refrig. that has been leaking moderate pools of water on each side of the refrig. It also has ice that forms on the floor of the freezer behind the baskets. We took to back off of the refrig. and see a white hard plastic with a black soft tip on the end of it. We assumed that was the water hose from where the water should drip through. We took a very small wire and tried to run it through it and it would not go very far, as we were afraid not to push it hard as we didn't want to damage anything. We now have the refrig. off hoping it will defrost and drain. Any suggestions? LInda Stanley

Do you have a thin layer of ice in bottom of freezer? If so, its a clogged drain - drain located "behind" back wall in "freezer" side (bottom).
If not, may be a broken or leaky water line or water valve - best serviced by an appliance repair technician... GL

Whirlpool side by side refrigerator laeking form

Hello

In the freezer section. Behind the lower rear wall is the coils and just below that is a drain. If you will remove any ice and use a coat hanger or screw driver to push down through that hole you should be able to get it unclogged. Take a small cup of water to verify that you have it unstopped and your done.

#225 in the drawing.
I hope this helps.

Whirlpool Refrigerator water leak through Ice dispenser

You need to remove the ice maker and open the front carefully. It has small micro switches inside it and it sounds like one that opens the water control valve is stuck in the on position. Be careful not to loose the arm spring and how that goes back together as you take it apart. Sea Breeze

Freezer compartment has frost buildup

This can be caused by the drain hole below freezer coil being blocked by ice. You MUST remove all ice in drain under freezer coil. Use turkey baster to squirt hot water into hole and use hairdryer to defrost. Possible defrost thermostat is defective. Unit never goes into defrost, ice forms on coil and in floor of freezer. After defrosting may work OK for a week or two but gradually gets warmer because ice is blocking ports where cool air gets to refrig. May also have water in refrig box. Can also be caused by defective defrost timer.

Water leaking from bottom of unit

For original poster: Check all milky white colored (polyethelne) plastic water lines. These lines tend to get brittle and can crack over a period of time. They extend from the water valve to the ice maker, and from the water valve to the inside of the refrig to a "radiator" so the water can chill, before it runs back out the refrig, past the left side of the refrig behind the bottom grill, through a coupler, and up through the bottom hinge of the freezer door. I'd also advise putting in a separate shut off for the water supply to the refrig so you can have water to the rest of your house when you have a problem with the refrig.

For next user with similar problem: you can check the above, but it may be that the defrost drain is plugged. (on a S x S unit, it is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment, behind the back wall.) If you have a layer of ice on the floor of the freezer, that's a dead give away of a blocked defrost drain tube, Use a turkey baster with hot (not boiling) water to flush it out.
