JENN AIRE LEAKING WATER ON FLOOR. NOT SUPPLY LINE PROBLEM. HELP

Open freezer, remove lower crisper & look for solid ice on freezer floor & area at rear of freezer. If present, defrost drain is restricted. Depending on make & model remove ice, remove rear wall and clear defrost drain trough and drain path. Verify by removing kick panel, pour a cup of near boiling water through drain and watch as it drains into pan. Once clear, pour one ounce of bleach into drain tube. Also check as water is draining into pan that the pan is not leaking due to pan cracks. This solution is based on the fact that you are stating no hoses are bad.

Ice forms on the bottom shelf of the frost free freezer. We have no ice maker. What could be wrong? It's seven years old. It's a Whirlpool

I expect that when you check - the drain tube behind the inside back wall of the freezer compartment is clogged with debris and / or ice.

First, disconnect the the fridge from power at the plug.

Inspect the evaporator pan under the fridge. It is probably dry. If not, empty it and replace it.

Gather some towels & rags, a wet vac if you have one and a blow dryer to defrost and soak up / pick up melting ice. Also get a flexible piece of wire (coat hanger will do), turkey baster and a pail or container. A small amount of bleach will be needed, too.

You'll have to empty the freezer compartment of food and remove the back panel to gain access to the pan and drain. Some freezers have a plastic shelf pan that covers and is screwed to the freezer floor - if yours does, you should remove it, too. Keep clear of the coil, heater and controls that are protected by the panel. Plan on two - three hours to do the work, and an additional 2+ hours for the freezer to get cold again if all goes well. It will take much longer if you do not accelerate the defrost process (chipping, use of a blow dryer, etc.). If you can store food in a neighbor's freezer - that will be ideal.

Next, defrost the freezer. CAREFULLY chip away ice on the floor of the freezer. Do no chip in the area that was behind the back panel. Direct the hot air from the blow dryer at the ice in this area instead. Use towels and wet vac to pick up the water. Fill the container with hot water, and fill the turkey baster with the hot water and discharge the hot water at the ice / drain opening to speed the defrost process. Try to keep splashing to a minimum. Remove the blow dryer from this area when using hot water to melt the ice. Once the ice ice clear, check the evaporator pan again. Carefully remove it. If no water is present, the tube is still blocked. Replace the pan and continue to melt ice in the drain and check again. Repeat as needed. it is possible that a spider has taken up residence in the drain pipe - or there is some mold growing inside it. Use the coat hanger to gently "snake" down the tube to clear any obstruction. Once water begins appearing in the evaporator pan, empty it again and replace.

Mix up 4 ounces or so of water and 1 once of bleach and draw into the turkey baster. Place the opening as close to the drain opening as possible and gently squeeze the mixture into the drain. The mixture will kill any mold, spider, etc. that has been growing in the tube.

Almost done, CAREFULLY remove the evaporator pan again after allowing enough time for the tube to drain and empty in sink. This is a bleach mixture so be extra careful not to spill anywhere that bleach will cause damage.

Lastly, clean up with disposable rags (don't ruin towels picking up the bleach mixture) and reassemble back panel and floor pan. Restock freezer and plug the fridge back into outlet.

I hope this helps & good luck. Please rate my replay. Thank you.

I have a Kenmore side by side Model No. 363.9565522. Noticed water dripping out of front of freezer onto floor - this has happened periodically over the lifetime of the side by side. Slid bottom freezer...

The drain heater goes into the drain, not outside it.
You need a longer drain probe to push all the way through the drain.
Look underneath for a kink in the drain tube.

Kenmore side by side water leaking from freezer

You can buy a kit from whirlpool. In the kit is a metal tab that mounts onto the defrost heater. It is long enough to go into the hole. When the heater comes on for defrost the heat transfers down to the hole and keeps it from getting plugged up with ice. Part number 819043

Leaking water and ice build-up in freezer

There's a drain hole in the freezer side behind the bottom drawer in the back wall that must be clogh ; put hot water into it untill melted the ice and keep pouring water to clean the drain (don't worry , the water goes to an evaporative tray) .Keep the drain clean by putting every 3/4 months half a cup of clorox or bleach.

Kenmore colspot freezer drain line keeps freezing

Hi, The defrost drain behind the rear freezer panel is plugged. Remove the rear panel and clear the ice away from the drain. Then you will need to flush the drain hole with hot water to make sure it is open.
Some models require an after market drain heat kit.
Please get me your model # and I can look this up to let you know if you need that heat kit.

Thanks

How do i clear drainpipe so defrost will go to drippan instead of inside the fridge

Compressed air/nitrogen. Air conditioning parts houses sell a kit used for clearing condensate drain lines. This device uses a CO2 cartridge for pressure. When you clear the drain pour a solution of 50/50 bleach water in the drain to kill the microbials.

Water on floor and ice on freezer bottom

The problem is that the drain hole inside the freezer in the lower back wall is clough and the water from defrost doesn't go through that drain to the evaporative pan in the back by the compresor ,you need to clear thatdrain first meltting the ice in that hole with hot water until it goes through then once in a while (every 3,4 months put bleach into the drain to keep it clear .

Leaking water

In back of the refrigerator behind a removable panel you will find a hose going into the drain pan under the refrigerator. Check and make sure there is no obstruction in the hose which would back up water into the freezer. After the drain hose is cleared the freezer should be defrosted and ice cleared from the drain area in the back. You can direct some hot water with some bleach in it through the drain to insure it flows into the pan.
