PS-79C Issue was the bin light came on (when the bin was out), but the power wouldn't come on and no other lights. Just called the 800 number above (800-945-4545) and was told to jiggle the power switch - worked!! (The power switch on the top, not the one by the power cord). I guess it doesn't quite seat onto the internal circuit board switch quite right. Yay, working again! Then I got lectured to oil it once a month or every bin full, which I haven't been doing...

You don't say what type it is, but they usually have little micro switches fitted to ensure the power won't come on until the blade section is fitting properly to the waste container part.If it is the bucket type with the shred part on top just make sure it rests properly on top of the bucket so the microswitch on the bottom of the shred part gets depressed. If it's a drawer type there may be a small projection on the drawer which pushes against a switch in the body of the shredder.

It is possible that a small shred of paper is lodged at the sensor underneath the cutting blade.

1. • 1 Unplug the paper shredder. Empty the shreds from the collection bin. Pull as much stuck material as possible from the top and bottom of the shredder blades with pliers or use canned air and blow the edges of the blades.
     
   • 2 Place the paper shredder back on the collection bin base and plug the shredder back in. Rock the shredding direction back and forth between forward and reverse.
     
   • 3 Make two passes across the cutting blades while drizzling synthetic shredder oil. Switch the direction to forward to run continuously for one minute.
     
   • 4 Lower two sheets of clean paper into the shredder. The paper removes excess oil, metal fragments and debris from the cutting blades. Blast the blades with compressed air when you notice a build-up of small paper scraps that may cause a jam.
     

Hi, you can place some oil on a piece of paper that you wish to shred & put that through your shredder. You do not need to saturate the paper, but use enough to lubricate your shredder.

I found a website called shredderparts.com that sells replacement parts for Fellowes paper shredders, including gears, switches, and spare parts for the cutting head. Unfortunately, I could not find a gear with the exact specifications you mentioned. However, they do have a 39 tooth second stage drive gear that is compatible with the Fellowes P-45C shredder. I had this happen where I worked and I elected to fix it. You have to remove the screws in the base, and IIRC the ends. Then I used a knife to cut the laminate pouch and pull out the pieces with pliers. If you can turn it on without damaging the machine or zapping yourself, the heat will help. Yes you can, you can also spray it with WD40, leave it an hour, spray it again and run a few sheets of plain paper through it. WD40 is kerosene based.
