Sharper Image Hybrid GP (SI724) Air Purifier Questions & Answers
Nothing collecting on strips
Larry, since this unit is electrostatic, you may or may not hear little crackles of sparks when it is operational. You should, however, smell a very faint odor of ozone when it is running properly. If you do not hear any sounds from the electrical plates and the air coming out of the unit does not have a little different smell than the air in the rest of the room, then the unit is not functioning properly. In my research of these units, I did see references to replacing the metal fins being required as some claimed they were an consumable element to the purifier and needed periodic replacement to function properly. However, nothing in the owner's manual says they are. It simply says to carefully clean them to avoid damaging the fins or plastic insulation on them.Other factors to check include:Making sure the unit has at least 12" of open space behind it.Making sure there is 36" of open space in front of it.Give time for dust to accumulate. The manual states that you should check the collection fins after a couple of days to see how much dust has accumulated since cleaning schedules will vary greatly depending on how dusty your home is. Dust collection may take days to start to appear.Make sure the DRYING CYCLE light is not on when the unit is operating. This protection system is designed to remove electrical power from the fins if humidity is detected (which can easily be the case since you are advised to wash the fins in water to clean them). If the DRYING CYCLE light is not on, you have plenty of air space around the unit, and after days you still do not see anything on the fins, then chances are the issue is internal and will require repair or replacement of parts. Be advised that this unit is no longer made and has no manufacturer supported service or parts availability. Further diagnosis and repair could quickly get costly and in most cases, you are probably better off replacing the unit.
How do I replace these two evpensive machines that no longer work?
You answered your own question really, you "replace" them. The Sharper Image online company you see today is not the same Sharper Image company that made these units. That company went into bankruptcy in 2008 and the name was bought by new investors who opened a new online store under the Sharper Image name. Unless the store you bought these from has a return policy that is still valid, you are stuck with two units that have no warranty and no service or parts support. If you know what is wrong, you can find second-hand parts online and fix it yourself. If you do not know what is wrong, finding out by replacing parts can get expensive very quickly. In that case, I would suggest selling the unit for parts or just disposing of it alltogether. There will usually be someone like myself who is looking for parts since that is the only way to keep these running anymore. I can see what second hand parts are selling for online and it may be worth trying to sell them off. Whether any parts are actually being sold at those prices, however, is another story and you may just be wasting your time trying.
My Shaper Image GP Air
After removing the grid see if your model has a louver which goes from side to side while blowing air. There is a plastic rod which moves like the old steam locomotive piston. This rods to an fro movement pushes the louver. The louver has a small notch which goes into this rod, that must have slipped off .If it slips off you will hear a clicking noise every 3 or 4 seconds depending how fast the rod moves.
My unit keeps turning off,
make sure not to forget cleaning the corona wires. i used light grade sandpaper and gently cleaned the wires as well as scrubbed the metal grids with scotch brite pads. the unit has been running normally .
I have a Sharper Image
i found a solution to the sparking problem in the ionic breeze.
purchased scotch brite cleaning pads from home depot.
using a long strip of pad scrub the plates back and forth especially in the areas that seem to be emitting sparks. i did this and the unit runs quiet as a whisper.
The unit pops periodically. I have cleaned it and
i have the same unit. clean the corona wires very gently with light grade sandpaper and scrub the metal grid blades thoroughly with a scotch brite pad. my unit was sparking like a lightening storm. after i cleaned it this way it runs perfectly.
When clean the filter in one hour the machine stop
clean the metal filter grid blades with a long strip of scotch brite pad and also clean the corona wires in the back of the unit very gently with light grade sandpaper. i had this problem and tried cleaning my unit so many times that i was ready to toss it into the trash. now it works normally. i did some spray painting in the room where the unit was operating and believe it picked up a coating of paint causing the sparking. good luck!
Hybrid GP won't turn on
The front and rear plastic grills of the Hybrid GP trigger a power cut-off safety mechanism if either of the grills is not entirely in place. The grills have a tendency to slide down ever so slightly if bumped. The tiniest amount of slippage is enough to engage the power cut-off and it's not generally noticeable unless you know what to look for. If the Hybrid GP has no power at all, you may need to slide one or both of the grills upward just a hair. You should hear and feel a slight click when the grills are properly locked into place.
Ionic Breeze GP S1830 just seems bead, no lights
these things are junk. you could also be doing more harm than good to
yourself and the indoor air quality in your home with the amount of
ozone these appliances omit into the air. throw it away
I purchased a Hybrid GP germicidal Air Purifier,
Locate the photo electric eye that picks up the need to clean and give it a thorought cleaning. Good Luck and I hope you get it repaired. That photo cell should be your problem It's probably a little black or ruby red dot in a fin or on the housing where yhe air passes.
RED LIGHTS COME ON AFTER I CLEANED THE GRIDS
hi.....
u wud have to take a pair of needle-nose pliers and rip out the metal blade at the bottom where the spark is occurring and fold it back against itself so that it is no longer "seated" into the bottom of the unit where the sparking is occurring
take care to bend the parts back in line with the blade so that lined up and could be removed and replaced into the unit without scraping anything.
When u put it back in, there ll be one last "spark" or probably a couple...... and after that i shud work just fine......
thank youhave a nice day good luck
