Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver - Page 8 Questions & Answers
I owe a tomtom 910 which will not hold its charge
How old is the battery? Rechargeable batteries usually last 3 to 5 years before they start losing their ability to give normal power and voltage. If it is 3 years or more, it is suspect to be at fault; if 5 or more, most likely a new battery fixes the problem.
If the tomtom is at fault, you are most likely out of warrantee time, however, most people never contact the manufacture when there is a problem (even if it is in-warrantee). I suggest you contact manuf. and do not take no for an answer. Be a pest to them about your problem and tell them you will berate them and crucify their product on the internet. Send them the unit (afterall , if it is bad, you have nothing to lose), let them deal with figuring out how to get you off their backs. It usually works very well-----they'll send you a new one just to shut you up. Goodluck, Macgivor
My tomtom910 is new, after
It seems to be frozen, take out the batteries and insert them back in, turn on the device, take it out under the direct sky and then check.
My tomtom GO910 will not
Hi
Often this problem can be resolved by dismantling the unit and unplugging the battery connector inside the unit for a minute then reconnecting it. This forces a proper 'hard reset' of the unit and often works in the case of symptoms as you describe. The battery and connector inside the unit looks like this.
Now have a look at this link - there is a video showing how to open the unit and access the battery - see 'Installation guide' beside the same picture of the battery on that page.
If this fails it is possible that you will need to replace the battery but please do try unpugging and reconnecting your old battery first as this may well work for you.
Here is the link to the information and please do remember to rate my answer as this is important to me as an expert on the site.
Many Thanks.

Tomtom GO910 will not restart.I
put it on a known good charger for atleast a few hours,(remove sd card if equipt) then try and turn it on by holding the power button for up to ten seconds. if that fails, try the reset again, with the sd card removed.
while resetting, do you feel the switch depressing (click ) these can be a pain to reset, least my 910 is. its very hard to tell if they are resetting.
if you have tomtom home, i would also see if you have the latest update for it. mine used to do this all the time until i installed the update. it hasnt done it since.
if you dont have tomtom home, you can get it

Tomtom910 won't turn on
Try doing a reset. The reset hole is on the bottom of the TT 910. Use a paperclip to do the reset. Gently push the paperclip into the hole until you feel a click the hold it for 30 seconds. That should do the trick, unless the unit is not actually charging. The green light will come on but not charge because of a bad connection on the motherboard on the negative side.
It doesn't power on. It is fully charged.
I have a habd held gps and it will not power up unless it is plugged into the lighter, then I can unplug and it works fine. You might try this just to see. This will also give us a little more info if it does not work. good luck and I hope it works.
My tomtom 910 does not charge but the charging
Hello there:
What i suggest is removing the battery and check the connections where the battery sits and see if there is any loose connections or is dirty and needs cleaning , and if the battery itself has a bad cell in it it wont charge properly you can take it to your nearest tomtom dealer and have them bench test it too to help find out what is going on with this unit ok>
I hope that this is very helpfull for you.
best regards michael
I don't have the Eu. map preloaded on my T.T.910
Usually you have to buy the maps unless they are preloaded. The 910 should have the US, CDN and Europe preloaded, so stand your ground and write a brimstone-smelling letter to the TT HQ. You should have the maps with the unit. If not installed, at least on a disk or a download voucher.
Basic screen when turned on...can't do anything else.
You will need to do a soft reset here are the instructions:
To reset your TomTom device, do the following:
- Check that the battery is charged properly.
Charge your device for at least 2 hours before trying to turn it on again. Make sure the charging light on your device is on.
- Remove the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, remove it.
- Reset your device.
Use a straightened paper clip, or something similar, to push the reset button for 15 seconds. See the pictures below for where to find the reset button.
- Turn your device on.
Press the On/off button for at least 5 seconds.
- Insert the SD card
If your device uses an SD card, insert the SD card.
Where is clear flash tool
you can get the TomTom Clear Flash tool Here
just follow the instructions on the download page. tomtom home must be closed when running the flash tool. i have my tomtom home set to boot up when ever i plug in a tomtom device, well tomtom home started while i was trying to flash my tomtom and i didnt notice it started. needless to say, it screwed the whole shooting match up.

Tomtom go 910 power connecter
Yes Chris it can be repaired. I do it all the time. The culprit is usually the negative pin. The negative pin is the gold pin on the far right hand side. With the unit upside down (you can see the contact pins on the board) and the lcd faceing you the negative pin will be on your far right hand side just below the reset hole. Doing it and telling you how to do it are two different matters.
Tom Tom won't boot up...sits idle with a red X on
This means it is not reading the SD card and that it needs to be re-formatted.
This is best done in a card reader and not the tomtom itself.
Right click on it and select format select FAT32 as the files system
Now connect the tomtom but don't let tomtom home run. exit TTH if need be.
You now ned to select your tom tom which will also show as a drive.
In windows explorer select tools then folder options. Click view and tick the box for "show hidden files and folders"
It may warn you but you can ignore it.
Then just copy ALL the files from the tom tom to your sd card
DO NOT USE CUT AND PASTE !
Once all the files are on switch off the tom tom and insert the sd card
It should now work
Freeze, reboot cycle
Just had this problem with my Tom Tom XL IQ Routes. Screen freezing and then rebooting exactly every 3 minutes just after I had done an upgrade to maps and application software. After trying a software reload and getting nowhere I solved it by simply doing a factory reset using the factory reset option in the units menu. No problem since. Couldn't believe it was that simple. I will however be keeping a very close eye on it!
Battery not holding charge
hi dave_hanc93
you say its not holding a charge, but is it charging?
plug the charger in and make sure the light is on on the charger, then on the map screen, tap the screen where the satellites are. on that screen on the top right is the charge indicator. is it green and moving from left to right? if not, then its not charging.
try hooking it up to the home dock to your computer and check and see if its charging on the home dock.
let me know how you make out.
