It sounds as though the 910 is not charged sufficiently to be able to maintain an on status and that the internal rechargeable battery is defective and needs replacing.

I have a TomTom Go 910 that has a RED CROSS FLASHING on the bottom corner, what I have found is that if you have backed up your TomTom Go i maybe able to reset the TomTom Go on my computer but if you havent you may have to find on try finding one on google but i have a TomTom Go 910 you can download the 910 on http://rapiddigger.com/download/backup-go-910-rar-9110176/.

after you found the back-up you can connect your TomTom Go to your computer using the USB provided from your TomTom Go, replace the doggie file with the new one, then this should change it back to the FIRST update given...

(WARNING >> PLEASE scan the file befor you put it in your TomTom Go it might contain a very very evil virus<< WARNING)

After attempting to update my tomtom910 I have not been able to get beyond starting up and it switching itself off after a couple of mins when fully charged

If you updated the operating system, and you are having this problem then something went wrong with the update. Hope you made a backup before you updated. If you did not, connect your 910 to the pc and then go to "My Computer" and open the drive for your 910. Delete "ttsystem". Now open TomTom Home and let TomTom Home install the operating system for your 910.

Tomtom wont come on

More than likely the negative post on your 910 is not making a contact. This is a known problem for the X10 series tt's. It can be fixed but you have to disassemble the tt to do it. No just replacing the battery won't fix your problem. If it was just a battery problem your tt would still boot up if connected to external power.

What do you use to charge the tom tom 910 in the house

In the box you have a 'desktop' mount. Looks like the windscreen mount without the ******.
Also you will have got a mains power lead.
Plug the lead into the 'desktop mount' (Left hand side) of the stick up bit.
Plug in and put your 910 onto the mount. It will 'Click' into place
The green light will shine to show it's charging.

To release the unit from the mount PRESS in the button in the middle of the screen top rim and lift off.

Remember to turn of the power at the socket to stop wasting electricity

The usb part of the desktop mount goes into your pc so you can connect to TomTom home or just plain old 'back it up'
It is ok to have power switched on or off when connect to the pc, there is no need to unplug the jackplug.

Hope this helps

TOMTOM 910 will not turn on after charging

According to Kevin A who says, and thanks by the way (There is a reset button on the back at the top of the unit. It should be on the right side as you turn the unit around. Insert a paperclip or pin into this hole, and the unit should reset) at it works 100% because I tried this morning after being quoted £55 to have my GO910 fixed and now it works after the price of a paper clip. Red x on tomtom 910

I discovered that there was a file on the 910 called CLMDATA which was corrupt. When I deleted this in Windows explorer, the unit started up and worked OK. This file is recreated when the unit starts up.
