You need a firewire cable and video editing software on your computer. Windows Moviemaker or Apple iMovie will edit the video, among others. There are two types of firewire ports, one is small and has 4 pins, and the other is larger and has 6 pins. Your camera has the 4 pin small plug and your computer will either have the 6 pin or the 4 pin, depending on the model and brand. Most desktops have the 6 pin, but some (particularly Sony) have the smaller 4 pin. Most laptops have the smaller 4 pin connector unless it is a Mac laptop it will have a 6 pin. So you will need a cable to fit both sides - 4 pin for the camera and either 4 or 6 pin for the computer.
Plug it in, put your camera in playback mode, start up your video software, and it should detect the camera and ask if you want to import the footage.

My jvc gr d244u digitial camcorder it torn up. when i go to eject the tape and it pops out it want retract it back in. what can i do to fix this problem.

you will need a firewire cable (ieee 1394).
you will also need a firewire port on your computer. if you don't have such a port you can buy a firewire pci card.
firewire looks similar to a usb port but it is different in size.

I use the software which came with the camera, and hit unload. It then downloads everything to the computer. To mover it to a CD or DVD I use windows explorer with copy and paste and not the programs supplied with winows vista. Easier to do.

You need to check the small switch on the tape and switch it the other way.

If this white spot is always exactly the same, but moves off the picture when you start to digital zoom and not optical zoom, there is probably something on the sensor. You mentioned that when zooming, eventually it moves. Are you in digital zoom mode at that time? (The switchover from optical to digital zoom is automatic, but you can disable it). Is this white spot blurry or sharp? Can you see fringes of the image at the edges? (This would suggest something on the lens).
If there is a piece of dust inside the lens ,you may be able to see it looking down the lens. How big is this spot?
Either way, if the camera is new, can you still return it?

This is a common(ish) problem on the JVC models. In most cases running the cleaning cassette will work. If it does not work the first time try it a second time. Make sure you follow the instructions as provided by the manufacturer for the use of your cassette and any cleaning solutions involved. Use them in conjunction with camera's information.

Have you looked in the manual ?

Take camera and its battery to a camera outlet, ask them to check the built-in rechargeable battery. Most outlets will help you with this, as its likely that if the battery has failed, you'll buy a replacement from the same dealer.

not sure on this one but it might be the heads in your vid cam may need cleaning. or the tapes are not running straight on the heads or the rollers in side. if the vid cam has been in a cold place it can cause this fault as the heads may have a bit of damp. try putting a tape in and run it fast forword in play mode and see if starts to clear the playhead.if it does keep doing it until you see a clear picture. this could also be a head misalignment fault if it is you will have to take it to some one to have a look at. if any of the above does not work then you will have to take to some one to look at it. .

Sounds as if the battery needs replacing - have you tried with a spare battery ?
