Do the videos work when viewed on a computer or TV (if using HDMI or other connections for TV)? If the camcorder still records video, but the screen itself isn't showing anything, then the screen needs replacing. If it does not record videos, then it's an internal repair issue.
The only real cure will be to clean the video head. If that doesn't work then I'm afraid that whatever recorded you EP mode tape was not set up well tracking wise. So other machines struggle to track the tape. Some VCR's will only playback SP or LP tapes and don't have EP mode. In which case you should check to see if these VCR's can play the EP tape and if they can't find one that can.
you have to check the firewire securety port.... it protect the camera from the wrong conections with the pc... it doesn"t complot the camera work.... if you have a playback recorder deck it can wait ....
Sorry, but it's not possible to record directly to a PC. Windows movie maker will only record from a tape. Please use a quality cable like Belkin, I have had issues with the cheaper firewire cords. Good luck
