Make sure you are inserting the correct version of black cartridge for your model. Try to remove both cartridges from the printer. Close the cover. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert your cartridges. You can also try to insert a different known working black cartridge to determine if the other is faulty.

Note that in order to scan using this printer using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you must use Windows Fax and Scan (it's included on every installation). If you're using Windows XP, then just download the driver and software package from the link and you should be able to use the full functionality of your printer.

While Lexmark claims that Vista Drivers will work in Windows 7, X6170 or the 6100 series are not found in Microsoft's Windows 7 compatibility site which means Microsoft does not guarantee its compatibility. (64bit or 32bit)

The only fix that we can do is to install the vista drivers in compatibility mode. If you haven't done this yet, here's how it's done:
1. Uninstall the vista drivers completely from the Control Panel. 2. Restart the computer. 3. Turn off your Anti-Virus anf Firewall completely. 4. Locate the Vista Driver Setup file (.exe) 5. Right click on the setup file. 6. Click Properties. 7. Properties window will open, click the Compatibilty tab. 8. Put a check mark on the box that says Run this program in compatibility mode for: 9. Choose Windows Vista in the pull down menu. 10. Put a check mark on the box that says Run this program as an administrator. 11. Click Apply. 12. Click OK. 13. Double click the setup file again to begin installation.

Pro901: As of this time, the firmware upgrade for this printer fixes the Wi-Fi issues only. Making it compatible to b/g/n wireless devices. Though Lexmark suggests to do a firmware upgrade if the print head troubleshooting fails, it does not guarantee that it will resolve the print head issues.

Recommendation:
Pro901 is around $299.99 (without discount). I believe that you can choose a better printer with thesame functionality at the same or lesser price with no printhead issues.
Personally, I find HP printers better, cost effective and a good support site. I don't need to call their support line for issues. The support documentation on their website has it all.

Try to clean the cartridge nozzles using the printer control panel.

1. Load paper.
2. Press Copy.
3. Press Options until Maintenance appears on the display.
4. Press the right arrow until Clean Cartridges appears on the display.
5. Press Select. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.
6. Print your document again to verify that your print quality has improved.

Also, check your ink levels. Make sure your ink levels are substantial for printing.

I think the best bet to find a Windows Vista driver is to go to http://www.lexmark.com.

At the top is a drop-down that says "Drivers & Downloads". Under that select "Driver Finder".

On this page it gives you a few options, but there is a box that says "Search by Model" above it. Type X7350 in this box and it will find what you need. You'll have to select Vista after this, but it should be easy from there on out I think. The X7300 and X7350 are the same series, and so the same driver will work.

To download your X6100 Series driver, visit the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/e5hjlF. Select your operating system(use Vista driver in Windows 7), download, execute the file and follow the instructions on your computer screen.

Leading cause of paper jams is debris/foreign objects that have accidentally fallen into the paper feed area.

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Grab a flashlight and look inside for any debris.

3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

4. If feeder is clear, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris that could cause this error or problem.

6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

7. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power outlet to reset it.

8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print again.

Try to remove the cartridges from your printer. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert your cartridges. Let the printer print the alignment page. Check for any errors. If none, try to print a test page.

If you still have the X7350 install disc, re-insert that in your hard drive to repair corrupted scan files/software.

Send a fax - Use the control panel and scanner glass 1. Make sure your All-In-One is on. 2. Open the top cover. 3. Put the first page of your document face down on the scanner glass in the upper left corner.
4. Close the top cover 5. On the control panel, press Fax. 6. Enter the fax number, then press black or color to send.

Use the control panel and ADF 1. Load up to 50 sheets of your original document face up in the ADF.

2. On the control panel, press Fax. 3. Enter the fax number, press black or color to send.

I'm sorry to inform you that your printer does not have that capability. This is a really good idea though - being able to store faxes in the memory for retrieval at a later time.

On the multi function machine seems to be a coating on the metal rod that the cartridges travel on. Just wipe this rod with a kleenex and the problem seems to go away. Somehow it presents a drag on the cartridges and causes an error.

Clean that with a paper towel. The towel will be black from ink residue, but you will be able to print again.
