Hello , let's try and tackle this: This is normal, this come straight of the satellite. To speed up process or bypass, reboot system. To Manually reboot this model, turn unit off like normal. Then when turning on, keep button down as it fires up, DO NOT release on button, keep it down until all fires up and even about 10 seconds passed, then let go. You will have to reset the gps device to be able to stop it from freezing. First you need to ensure that the battery is properly charged, then you turn it off, take out the battery and install it back on. That way the device will be reseted.
If that does not not reset the device, try to check for the reset button and press it, that should solve the problem for you.

buy a better unit. As the one you have has a lot of problems. I took mine in to where I bought it and they replaced it for free. :-)
