What is the button for
2nd [square-root]
The 2nd is the shift key at the upper-left corner of the screen. The square root is the shifted function of the x^2 key, just to the left of the 7 key.

How do I use the Log button on this calculator?
The TI-30 XIIS, like most calculators, cannot do logarithms to base 5 directly. You need to apply the formula:
To calculate the logarithm at base 5 of 25, you key in: 25 [log] [
÷] 5 [log] [=]

I'm using the TI-30X IIS
Press 2nd [STAT] then select CLRDATA to clear statistics data. Select 1-VAR or 2-VAR for one-variable or two-variable statistics. Press DATA and enter your data (x for 1-VAR or x and y for 2-VAR). Press 2nd [EXIT-STAT] and select N. Press STAT-VAR to see a menu of statistics variables and their values. Sx (and Sy) will give you the standard deviation, sigma-x (and sigma-y) will give you the population standard deviation.

5 ^ (-) 2 =
The ^ key is above and to the left of the 7 key, the (-) key is just to the right of the decimal point key.

How do I find the square root of a number?
On the leftmost side of your calculator, press the 2nd button.
Then, press the x^2 button (above it there should be a square root symbol)

I've tried to get out of the degree setting many
Whatever angle mode you're in, the calculator will display that. So, if you switch to radians, the DEG will disappear from the screen but the RAD will show up instead. That's just the way the calculator works.

How do I do a problem like log 14 base 6?
To calculate the log to any base, use the relation log_b(x) = log(x)/log(b) = ln(x)/ln(b).
You can use either LOG or LN, you'll get the same result (within roundoff error).
