Kitchenaid stand mixer attachment stuck

This has happened to me - however, the attachment pushed up and down on the spring with no trouble, and also turned.
The problem, it turned out, was the metal pin that sticks out - was sticking out TOO FAR. I put some WD-40 on the outside of the pin, and I used a small screwdriver and a hammer and gave it a few whacks so the pin moved back a bit. Once I did that, I could push up the attachment and unscrew it as normal.
When it's off, look at the pin and make sure it sticks out at least flush on one side if not protruding a little.

Where the beaters fit in, there is a small oil

Oil leaks are common. As oil is stretched it separates. If it is leaking over your nice silver "beauty ring" then the ring is not catching the oil. If it is leaking below the silver "beauty ring" then the gears in the planatary area has worn down too much and is separating.

In either case, you can wipe it up with use or do what a lot of DIY people do, take her apart and remove and regrease the unit. Search online for regrease kitchenaid mixer, I would post a link but I dont want the link to be broken down the road. There are tons of tutorials for it online. You remove the grease and replace it with new. I used automotive grease from autozone, but there is a specified grease for the mixer on kitchen aid's site. Depends how picky you are.

Kitchenaid does not grease under the planatary from factory anymore, they just dont see a need. (this is an area below the silver beauty ring I mentioned. It was metal on metal when I took apart my new mixer for check up. This may be why you have grease leakage too, it was an old standard to grease there, but there is not significant friction to warrant the heavy grease there anymore.

Hope this helps.

Tilt the mixer up, look at the joint where it connects to the stand under the "belly" of the mixer. You should see a small silver screw. Dialing it out will raise the head of the mixer, dialing it in will lower it.

Cannot get drip cup back

I had a major problem with this beauty ring for an hour too, my issue was I could get it on but it would not stay, there was grease and it was slightly odd. I bashed it, tried to stretch it, tried to bend in the top a little.

The only solution I saw was the fact there were dots of where super glue was applied, and then I thought to myself, that they had glued it. I added dots of super glue and slid it on, held for a few seconds and let the glue do its magic. I think either it had been serviced and glued before, or it just was too out of shape to click back in.

I have seen some videos of people sliding it back on tension wise, but a few drips of super glue (front back and sides) allow you to break it loose again if need be but it wont let go on you. This is obviously only going to work if you can get it flush in the first place.

My 250 watt KitchenAid mixer

I would say that without a doubt it's the speed control that either needs to be reconnected say because of a loose wire or the speed control switch needs to be replaced.

Take care!

Which is the better mixer of these old models: K5A

Hello ajlina,

All of these are great home use units, all the attachments are interchangeable between these. The difference between these mixers is the K5 is a 5 quart mixer and the K45 is a 4.5 quart mixer. As I own both of them they are great in the kitchen and have the same durability.

Have any more questions please post to this thread and I will be happy to assist. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Hobart KitchenAid Mixer Model K45SS and

Hello Mayfix,

The problem with your mixer is the speed control switch, this switch is located at the back of the unit. It is usually black and has all of the wires coming into it, the Item # 1394070 and cost $27.95 it can be located at RepairClinic.com he is a link
http://www.repairclinic.com/Kitchenaid-Switch-Parts?z=100&gclid=CKSD5NriuKcCFUVqKgodIE2b_g

You will have to adjust after you install you will adjust the two screws at the top of the switch while the machine is running inorder to make sure that you are getting all the speeds. Be careful as there is a possibility of electrical shock if you touch the wronge thing.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Need to replace brushes for

Hello Tony,

I have located the brushes for your K45 mixer, the Repair clinic has them in stock for $4.38 each, the Item # 1549909, and you may use the link below:
http://www.repairclinic.com/Kitchenaid-Motor-Parts?z=100&gclid=CKSD5NriuKcCFUVqKgodIE2b_g

You will also want to pay attention to the side of the brushed that are angled as they only go in one way. You will have to look inside the brush hole and make sure you put the angle to the same side as the angle on the inside of the hole and everything should work just fine.

Thank you for using FixYa to find your solution.

I ordered a new screw plate to put on my stand

here is the correct part for your mixer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kitchenaid-Parts/Mixer-Parts/W10191926/0011/665/Model-K45SS/0593/0212320?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=K45SS&subCompDesc=Base%20and%20pedestal&brandDesc=KITCHENAID&modelDesc=MIXER&blt=11

If this is what you odered then it will fit. It might be it only fits in one position so rotate it until it goes in. It is a snug fit so make sure the base is cleaned out of any flour etc, then press it into place.

Mixer will not turn on. Is there a reset button?

There is no reset button. More than likely the speed control plate is bad. This is a common problem. I recommend storing the mixer unplugged and on the first speed. Also don't store it with the beater, whisk, or hook attached to the mixer. This may help save the control plate contacts from becoming sprung. [email protected]
