We have a K45SS mixer problem. When it is on the lowest setting it hums and the beaters barely turn. The next setting up has a noise but the higher speed settings work just fine. What is the problem?

the lower setting is for stirring. this is a high quality machine that is made to take a beating. you are just hearing the motor wind up. think of it like a jet engine starting, its made to run its smoothest at high rpm's, so it sounds funny at low rpm's but nothing is wrong with it.

KitchenAid 300 Watts - doesn't turn on

the brushes are not square, but have one corner cut off.  use a flashlight to see which direction the brushes must be put back.  clean the ends of them well with a cotton cloth before reinstallation.
try spinning the rotor-head by hand, then try turning it on (sometime junk is stuck between the brushes and the commutator (motor).

Constant pushing of the beater onto the Agitator shaft (40) can cause
it to be pushed in too far into the Planetary (33). With the beater in place,
use a rubber mallet to slightly tap the edges of the beater and push the
shaft out until you can see the retaining clip.
Now you have enough clearance on the shaft to push the beater upward
and twist it to remove it.

I have been trying to

To remove a pin from a shaft, you really need a small steel hammer and
a pin punch. I purchased a set of three pin punches at Walmart for 4 dollars.
That's the only and proper way to remove the pin.

Make sure you have the shaft supported on a wooden block before
driving out the pin.

Kitchenaid mixer motor quit ,

Obtain a copy of the Repair Part List for your model from Kitchenaid.com.
Download a Copy of the Kitchenaid Service manual.

First, you may want to adjust the mixer's speeds:

1. Loosen the lock nuts enough & Turn the 2 top screws clockwise until they cannot be turned
anymore. Leave the bottom screw alone for now.
2. Use a dab of white paint or paper whiteout to mark the positions of the Phillips screws.
3. Plug in your mixer and Set the speed selector to "Stir".
4. Turn each top screw One full turn couterclockwise (alternating between Left and Right)
Keep making one full turn at the time (for both left and right) until the motor starts running.
5. Put your hand near the Agitator shaft and allow it to brush your finger slightly. Use your
watch or clock and start counting the number of times the shaft touches your finger in
60 seconds. The correct count should be 60 RPM (Rounds Per Minute). If it is less
or more than 60, give each screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise or clockwise and start counting
again. Now tighten both lock nuts.
6. Set the speed selector to "6" and turn the bottom screw either clockwise or counterclockwise
to achieve a speed of 180 RPM.

For your reference, the planetary RPM's for the 5-qt. tilt-head Artisan Stand Mixer are as follows:
Stir speed - 60
Speed 2 - 95
Speed 4 - 135
Speed 6 - 180
Speed 8 - 225
Speed 10 - 280

Second, if the mixer won't run:
Remove the Control Plate Assembly (36), the Phase Control Board (39)
and the motor Governor Assembly (35). Inspect for loose connections,
burnt or damaged components. If they seem to look OK, re-assemble
them and test the mixer. If the motor still won't run, then I might suspect
a defective Phase Control Board (39).

Mixer motor quit.

I think that the motor is still fine. Get a Copy of the Repair Part List from Kitchenaid.com.
First thing I would do is to check the two Motor Brushes (one on each
side of the Motor Housing). Make sure they are not worn out, and when
inserted, they must both make contact with the Motor Coils. If even
one of them is not in contact with the coils, the motor will not run.
You can also remove the Motor Housing and visually verify that they
are touching the Coils.

Hi,This type of slider speed controls accumulate some dirt in than does not control the speed as suppose to be.
As you noticed it works at the end only.As a remedy I can recommend you to buy a " Contact Cleaner " spray can ( 3 USD) from any hardware store and with it's tiny pipe, pls spray deep into the sling area ..make sure all the way slider receives enough spray into...while it is wet move the slider quickly back and forth 10-15 times to clean the contact inside.and than spray again and leave it. it is harmless and the excess fluid will be vaporized.
.It should correct the speed control as used to be immediately..You may need to repeat this action possibly every 6 months..or whenever you feel it slows the speed control again..
If you need more info pls ask me again..

Hope this helps!

Hi, I have this mixer for 5 years now and never

Attach the Flat Beater to the Beater Shaft, and raise the bowl.
If the beater touches the bottom of the bowl then inspect the
Agitator shaft : the retaining ring should be leveled with the
surface of the Planetary. If not, then of course the bottom of
the beater will start scraping the bowl. You can use a rubber
mallet to tap the shaft back in.
