OBD code: 1576 is generated. Also, displays "FAILSAFE ENGINE MODE" This happens when the throttle is released, and the engine looses power. Experienced about two weeks ago while driving to Boston from JFK airport, but I got the car home. I was able to place into NEUTRAL, turn off the key and re-start the motor, and it was OK for awhile. I removed the throttle body, and had it rebuilt; the place that did the work said that it was in fact bad, and the gave me a lifetime guarantee on the work. Had to replace some hoses that were damaged during the throttle body removal / replacement. Got it all put back together yesterday, drove it to the store, on the way home that FAILSAFE MODE came back on and the car died. The throttle position sensor was not replaced as part of the repair, so that is still suspect. Any other ideas? What else do I need to check? If I replace the TPS, is there anything else I need to do? Thanks.

AS I said, the TB was removed and rebuilt. All the information I find indicates 1576 is related to pedal position error.
Did you read my original message all the way through?
    Please advise

OK, I was mistaken, someone else responded that it was a Vacuum assist problem..
The APP sensor is located where?
    And thanks!

Thanks! I will get the part and have it replaced this weekend.

Hi,

When the failsafe light comes on the PCM has detected a fault and goes into a restricted mode to prevent damage to the engine and transmission. It can be a brake switch, accelerator pedal problem or possibly a fault with the electronic throttle.

As you have already scanned and got 1576,this code is for the pedal position sensors. The usuall cause is the accelerator pedal itself as all the sensors are internal in the pedal. The cost of the part is around $475.The pedal is easy to replace as you need to remove two 10mm nuts and one wire connector.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Kindly accept my solution.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!.

P1576 = CAN data bus, Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor - communication malfunction. Probable cause: Wiring, APP sensor.
CAN = Controller Area Network
It's not bad Throttle Position (TP) sensor in your case.
First time check out the APP sensor wiring. If everything is all right replace the APP sensor.
Good Luck!

Yes, I did read the original message. I still believe that the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is bad, but check out first the APP sensor wiring & connecting plug. If everything is all right replace the APP sensor.

Hi, the code 1576 means Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor circuit voltage high..

Fail safe engine mode is caused by a stopped up throttle body. Do not clean the throttle body since it has a protective coating to help keep deposits from accumulating. You can clean the throttle body as long as you use ONLY throttle body cleaner that states it is safe to use with a protective coating. The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually stick not allowing air to flow into the manifold causing failsafe engine mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine will produce. To solve the issue just clean out your throttle body, it will cost you around $5 dollars and take 1 hour of your time.

Engine Failsafe Mode came on after cleaning battery cables. Vehicle will start, but won't run. No throttle

Fail safe is TPS sensor. When you go in fail safe the vehicle give a set amount of RPM and no throttle response the rule of thumb in fail safe is APP1 and APP2 does not agree the goal is to protect the catalytic convertor. So if the transmission was at fault you dont over rev to end up burning the Cat. Or over rev to break the engine It all boils down to a throttle body assembly as the solution

My ford explorer 2005 has a engine failsafe mode

Check engine light on , failsafe mode . The first thing to do would be to hook up a scan tool an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . Was the vehicle overheating ? Failsafe mode will shut the vehicle off to save the engine if it is over heating . Do you know if the vehicle has electronic throttle control ? Was their a yellow wrench symbol lit on the instrument cluster as well ?

Hello im having a problem with my 2005 explorer the problem is engine failsafe mode?

Hi, when a major sensor fails, the engine computer reverts to default settings that the engine will run on but only well enough to get you to a service station. This is often called "limp home mode." In every case I've heard of, the malfunction indicator will light and the computer will store a code indicating the missing sensor data. An OBD 2 scanner is needed to extract the code. If you can get the code and send it to us, we can advise you on appropriate repairs. Most auto parts chains offer a free OBD 2 scan service. Please let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

What does Failsafe Engine Mode mean? my manual was stolen

Hello! Fail safe mode is when the vehicle's computer detects a serious problem an allows you to "limp" off the road or highway safely.

Fail safe mode on a Jaguar is mainly caused by a dirty and gummed up throttle body. The throttle body on your auto has a protective coating, so you can not use just any cleaner. It requires a throttle body cleaner that states "safe to use with a protective coating". The butterfly valve in the throttle body will actually "stick out". This causes fail safe mode to kick in reducing the amount of power your engine can produce.

Also check the plugs on your ECM (computer) and make sure they are all seated properly.

2005 lincoln ls going into etc failsafe mode

I had to replace 4 different coils on my '02 LS before it finally stopped misfiring. After one code and coil replaced it would go to the next one. I had to replace them in this order, 2,3,7,8

When # 7 was misfiring it wouldn't even pull a code all of the time, the check engine light would come on one day then go off the next, really strange.
