In the diagram for rear lamp, the top wires are voltage, the bottom black wire is ground. The brown wire on either side should be tail lamps, goes hot when you turn on the headlamp switch. The other top wire on either should be for turn signal. With everything turned on, is there voltage on that wire?
Because the front works and the rear don't, possible wiring circuit problem? The voltage for turn signals comes from bcm. The bcm knows when you turn on turn signal switch, either side, then the bcm sends voltage to turn signal lamp at the rear and front.
their is no power steering reservoir your hhr has electric assist steering i dont remember if their is a recall for your year know that 2009 and 2010 but gm did announce a lifetime warranty on hhr 2006 to 2008 and some 2009 if your having problem with steering --call a dealer with your vin and see if their is a recall and what the life time warranty on the assist power steering consists of
I see two possible problems here with your HHR
must of the time when is lot of weight on the transmission
the shifter gets stock in park.
press the brake pedal try to move you steering wheel with your left hand to the right at the same time try to move
the shifter off park.
good luck.
There's a plastic pert on the turn signal switch that has broken or worn down. Replacing it is impossible without special tools to remove the steering wheel. There is a procedure to follow to dis arm the air bag before you try to remove the steering wheel. A Chilton manual will give you instructions.
You may want to try pushing fordward harder into the park position while turning the key to the off position. The locking cable may need adjustment. If this does not work, try turning the collar just behind the keyswitch counter clockwise while trying to remove the key. Thanks, Dana
GM has come out with a recall for the steering motor for the HHR, Cobalt and a few other cars that use the steering system. I agree it's junk. I am a GM technician and see too many of these come in for repair. The key is also a problem area. The ignition cylinder binds, The shifter can cause the key to stick in the ignition, etc. The turn signal is not a common. Gm customer assistance can help you.
this is the exact same issue i have... on the same side!!!
